It has been officially confirmed that Wrexham have parted ways with a long-time player on transfer deadline day.

It has been a huge summer of change for the Dragons, which began with the release of eight players.

Wrexham parted ways with Steven Fletcher, Mark Howard and more when their contracts expired in June.

Other big names have since followed, including Paul Mullin signing for Wigan Athletic and Ollie Palmer joining Swindon Town.

Mullin left on loan, while Palmer had his contract terminated in order to secure a move.

Now, another previously key star has departed North Wales on transfer deadline day.

Tom O’Connor Wrexham exit confirmed

It was reported earlier this week that Tom O’Connor was ‘free to leave’ Wrexham in this window.

On deadline day, it emerged that Peterborough United wanted to sign O’Connor.

Now, in an official statement from Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony on X/Twitter, he has confirmed the signing of the defender from Wrexham on a season-long loan.

He wrote: “Delighted to get multiple promotion winner Tom O’Connor from championship @Wrexham_AFC on loan for season. A fantastic defensive addition to our squad.”

The 26-year-old joined Wrexham from Burton Albion for an undisclosed fee in 2022.

O’Connor was dubbed ‘irreplaceable’ for Wrexham during his time with the Red Dragons.

He played a crucial role in all three of their promotions in the Rob and Ryan era.

But like many players, Wrexham’s rapid rise up the EFL saw the stopper fall out of favour under Parkinson.

All told, O’Connor made 110 appearances, scored seven goals and provided four assists for the Welsh side.
