Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have expanded their footballing empire in the last few years.

It began in 2021 when Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the Red Dragons for the small price of £2m.

Four years and three promotions later, a pretty crazy £350m valuation of Wrexham has been mooted as the duo eye up fresh investment.

Away from the Welsh powerhouse, the North American duo have been making further investments in other sides

McElhenney and Reynolds invested in Club Necaxa in April 2024, while the Wrexham owners also invested in La Equidad earlier in 2025 in a deal worth around £24.5m.

But there is another team that Ryan was tipped to purchase earlier in 2025, and they are now thriving.

Team Ryan Reynolds was tipped to buy are thriving

In February 2025, reports emerging from the Mirror said that Reynolds was considering Vancouver Whitecaps as an investment, with a £300m fee mooted at the time.

There has been no update on any potential investment from the actor since then, but the MLS side are now flying.

Vancouver Whitecaps have never won the MLS Cup, and their highest-ever points total came back in 2015 (53).

However, in the 2025 season, which is still ongoing in the United States, the Canadian outfit are in superb form.

After 17 fixtures of the 34-game normal season, they sit top of the Western Conference with 35 points from just 17 matches.

Vancouver are two points below Philadelphia Union, who top the Eastern Conference, but have played one game more.

Should they continue their current form, Reynolds’ boyhood club will smash their previous points tally and surely be among the favourites to go on and win the cup later this year.

What Ryan Reynolds has said about Vancouver Whitecaps

After growing up seeing Vancouver in action, Reynolds watched Wrexham face the MLS side in a pre-season fixture last year.

The Red Dragons won 4-1 and gave Ryan a moment he will never forget.

He said: “Wrexham playing the Vancouver Whitecaps was one of those pinch-me moments that as long as I live, will never forget.

“BC Place is the stadium I went to as a kid, I’ve been to BC Place maybe 100 times in my life and I’ve always sat way up in the nosebleeds with my dad and here I am, I’m in BC Place with my daughter, I’m in the owners box and you know, spanking them, that felt pretty good too.”
