Wrexham completed the signing of Conor Coady on Friday, with the defender finalising a £2million move from Leicester City.

Phil Parkinson was faced with a tough call in the heart of his Wrexham back line towards the end of last season.

Eoghan O’Connell was consistent across the season, but Dan Scarr had been praised by Wrexham fans and found himself in form as the season drew to a close.

Scarr was given the nod against Charlton Athletic, as Wrexham secured a third straight promotion and a passage to the Championship.

O’Connell and Scarr were potentially ready to battle it out for a starting role in the middle of Parkinson’s back three.

The pair now have new competition, though, as Wrexham have snapped up Conor Coady in a £2million move from Leicester City.

Conor Coady on Wrexham rise under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds

Coady’s best football came as a centre-back in the middle of a three-man defence, and Parkinson is likely to deploy him in that role again.

The former Liverpool youngster is now 32 and provides major Premier League experience, having played almost 200 times in the top flight.

Coady actually played more in the Premier League than in the Championship during his two years at Leicester City, but has now been signed to play a big role in Wrexham’s second-tier charge.

The former England international has now commented on his move to the STōK Cae Ras, admitting his excitement after finalising his Wrexham switch.

Speaking on Wrexham’s official YouTube channel, Coady admitted that he thinks Wrexham’s rise has been ‘amazing’.

Coady has loved watching the progress under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds from afar, admitting that he has seen everything around the club, from the documentaries to so many televised games.

Coady added that McElhenney and Reynolds have helped open people’s eyes to what Wrexham are all about, both as a club and as a community.

“It’s amazing, isn’t it?” said Coady.

“I think you’ve been living under a rock if you’ve not seen what Wrexham have been doing over the years, because we see everything: the documentaries, the way they’re playing, the games on the telly.

“I think it’s really opened people’s eyes in terms of what Wrexham are about, so I think it’s been class, yeah,” he added.

The video also showed Coady pulling on all three of Wrexham’s shirts for the 2025-26 campaign.

Coady admitted that he is a big fan of Wrexham’s Patagonia-inspired third shirt, but one detail on the red home shirt really took his fancy.

Coady loves that the Wrexham crest is centred on the home shirt, which is something we don’t see on many shirts nowadays.

The defender admitted that he likes something a ‘bit different’ on football shirts, so that detail on Wrexham’s home shirt impressed him.

“We spoke, didn’t we, about the badge being in the middle? I like it, me. I like it, I like it when it’s a bit different,” he added.

Coady should pull on that red shirt on many occasions after finalising his move, though his competitive career with the club will begin in the yellow shirt as Wrexham travel to face Southampton this weekend.
