Wrexham are gearing up for an FA Cup clash against Harrogate Town and Dan Scarr is expecting a tough game this weekend.

Phil Parkinson will have been pleased with a midweek off after three testing games for Wrexham.

Facing Rotherham United, Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic in the space of a week would be a test for any League One side.

Wrexham came through the week unbeaten, beating Rotherham United before a couple of draws against Huddersfield Town and Charlton Athletic.

Parkinson feels his Wrexham side is developing nicely right now and a break from the relentless League One fixture list will have been welcomed.

Dan Scarr on Wrexham clash with Harrogate Town

Wrexham have been drawn against Harrogate Town in the FA Cup as the first round takes place this weekend.

Parkinson will be looking for a win against the League Two side but will be expecting a real battle in Yorkshire.

Harrogate frustrated Wrexham at the STōK Cae Ras back in March, claiming a 0-0 draw as Wrexham fans poked fun at Harrogate boss Simon Weaver.

Wrexham also played out a 2-2 draw at Harrogate in November 2023, so Sunday’s hosts certainly put up a good fight against Wrexham last term.

Wrexham defender Dan Scarr has now told The FA’s official website that he is expecting a ‘tough game’ against Harrogate.

Scarr sent a clear message to his Wrexham teammates, urging everybody to remain ‘professional’ in their approach to facing Harrogate this weekend.

The centre back noted that Harrogate will be ‘doing loads of work’ on how to raise their game and send Wrexham crashing out of the FA Cup.

Scarr added that everybody must treat this game like it was a league match, believing that such a mindset will leave Wrexham with a great chance to progress into the second round.

“It’ll be a tough game,” said Scarr.

“In these games the underdog is always giving 30-40% more than they usually would do and they’ll be doing loads of work on how to stop us. As long as we’re professional in our approach and approach it how we would a league game we have a very good chance of getting through,” he added.

Scarr may now be Parkinson’s first choice

Scarr joined Wrexham from Plymouth Argyle over the summer, bolstering Phil Parkinson’s options at the back.

Wayne Rooney was happy for Scarr to join Wrexham but the defender had to be patient and wait for his chance at the STōK Cae Ras.

Max Cleworth’s recent injury meant Scarr came into the side, starting in the middle of the back three.

That meant Eoghan O’Connell shifting over to the right side to fill in for Cleworth, but the Wrexham talent is now back in action.

When Wrexham lined up to face Charlton, many expected Scarr to be the man to drop out for Cleworth.

Instead, O’Connell was left on the bench with Scarr keeping his place in the heart of defence.

O’Connell has been such a fine player for Wrexham in recent times but Scarr now has a chance to nail down his starting role – and he will be desperate to start once again this weekend.
