Lee Trundle recently gave an interview where he discussed all things Wrexham, giving his verdict on where the club might end up finishing in the Championship next season.

Wrexham earned a third-straight promotion last season after securing a dramatic 2nd place finish in League One under manager Phil Parkinson.

In the final home game of the season, Wrexham beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 to secure their spot in the top two, then finishing their campaign with a win away at Lincoln City before moving into what is another crucial summer transfer window.

Already, many are making their predictions for how the Dragons will fare next season. Troy Deeney has backed Wrexham to stabilise in the Championship and that seems to be the view of many: that Wrexham will be safe from the drop, but not quite title challengers.

It will be the biggest step up in quality that the club has experienced so far under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. But with a strong summer transfer window, Wrexham could really cause a few upsets next season.

Lee Trundle backs Wrexham for comfortable Championship finish in 2025/26

Former Wrexham man Lee Trundle has appeared in Fearless in Devotion recently. Trundle gave his verdict on Wrexham’s potential new signings, including Lewis O’Brien and Harry Darling, and spoke in depth about the owners and about the club’s chances of succeeding in the Championship next season.

The former Swansea City hitman said of Wrexham: “They can easy challenge in the Championship. I’ve watched the league for years, week in week out, and I don’t think they will be in a relegation battle at the bottom. I do think it’ll be mid-table, but who knows, with what they’ve done over the past couple of years it wouldn’t be surprised if they were up amongst the play-offs.”

Wrexham last played in the second tier of English football back in the 1981/82 season. They were relegated after a 21st place finish that season, but had achieved 15th, 16th, and 16th place finishes in the three seasons before, after their promotion to the second tier in 1978.

Everyone seems to agree that Wrexham are in store for a really tough test next season. Trundle though is one of the few to put a potential table position on the Dragons’ head for next season, and many fans would surely jump at a mid-table finish.

Speaking recently, Mark Howard gave his verdict on Wrexham’s 2025/26 season following his departure from the club, simply explaining how the next season will be another huge step up in terms of quality for Wrexham.

But Ollie Rathbone has predicted Wrexham success in 2025/26, insisting that the club can cause some upsets and more than hold their own in the second tier. He said: “I feel we can have a really strong season and hopefully cause a few surprises. The Championship is a massive step-up in terms of the quality on the pitch, the size of the stadiums and the atmosphere.”

As ever, Wrexham’s entire fortune in 2025/26 could be dictated by what they do in the transfer market in the nest several weeks.
