Wrexham have picked up two home wins in a matter of days after beating both Exeter City and Lincoln City at the STōK Cae Ras.
Nobody in League One will be fancying a trip to Wrexham any time soon.
Wrexham have been sensational at home this season, dropping just two points at the STōK Cae Ras.
Wrexham’s away day struggles have been somewhat offset by being almost perfect at home this season.
That home record has been boosted over the last week with Wrexham beating Exeter City 3-0 and Lincoln City 1-0.
This has been the ideal response after losing away at Stockport County with Wrexham sitting second in the League One table.
George Dobson on Phil Parkinson decision
Wrexham hit back against Exeter City with Phil Parkinson making a tactical shift.
We are used to seeing Wrexham lining up in a 3-5-2 system under Parkinson but that has been slightly tweaked.
Parkinson has switched to something of a 3-5-1-1 with Elliot Lee supporting Ollie Palmer up top and three midfielders playing behind him.
Wrexham have picked up two wins with that new system and midfielder George Dobson has now praised Parkinson’s switch.
Speaking on Wrexham Match Day Live on Wrexham’s official YouTube channel, Dobson suggested that the new Wrexham approach is ‘causing teams problems’.
Dobson noted that his role has changed a little but he is enjoying causing havoc alongside Matty James, Elliot Lee and Ollie Palmer.
“When you play a little bit higher, you’ve got to be more patient,” said Dobson.
“When you’re playing as the sitter, you’re the one who needs to try and link the play but at times, I need to stay away and pull out, and at times then go alongside Matty just to cause the opposite midfield problems.
“I think in both games we’ve done that to be fair, with Elliot coming into the pocket as well and Ollie on the other side, as a four we’ve created big distances and both teams who’ve played with a three… it’s been hard for them to defend.
“It’s obviously something a bit different and it’s something we’ve just started working on but it is causing teams problems,” he added.
Dobson almost undroppable for Parkinson
James McClean was named Man of the Match against Lincoln but it was Dobson who really opened up the game to create the winning goal.
Dobson’s driving run saw him pick out McClean and force Tendayi Darikwa’s own goal to hand Wrexham the win.
This summed up Dobson’s importance as he transitions from playing as a holding midfielder to operating more box-to-box.
Parkinson highlighted his relationship with Dobson upon signing him having previously worked together at Sunderland.
It’s therefore no surprise that Dobson has not only started every League One game this season but missed just five minutes of league action.
Dobson has become so important for Wrexham and no matter the formation, Parkinson will get him into the side.
