A current Wrexham player is expected to clash with his former club, Cardiff City, in the Carabao Cup.

After seeing off Reading on Tuesday, Wrexham have been drawn against Cardiff City in the fourth round.

The Carabao Cup prize money in 2025/26 is by no means huge, but the opportunity to clash with their Welsh rivals and possibly make it into the quarter-finals and finally face a Premier League team should excite fans.

Wrexham were linked with several Cardiff players during the 2025 summer transfer window, including their star striker Callum Robinson.

A move from Robinson did not come to pass, though, with the Dragons instead landing Ryan Hardie, Nathan Broadhead, Josh Windass and former Bluebird Kieffer Moore to improve their attacking ranks.

Kieffer Moore record with Cardiff City

Wrexham signed Moore from Sheffield United in a £2m deal over the summer.

Prior to his stint with the Blades, the veteran centre-forward played for Bournemouth, who signed the attacker from Cardiff.

Moore joined the Welsh outfit from Wigan Athletic during the 2020 summer transfer window.

He made 66 appearances for Wrexham’s upcoming Carabao Cup opponents in all competitions, scoring 25 and assisting six.

After a prolific couple of years, Cardiff sold Moore to Bournemouth in January 2022 for a fee worth up to £5m, as per BBC Sport.

The Welsh international commented on his time with the League One outfit after he scored against them in December 2024.

He said, as quoted by Wales Online: “I had a great time here and I loved playing here, I scored a lot of goals here.

“I suppose it’s never nice for the home fans when I come back here and still score but I loved my time here.”

Kieffer Moore’s stint at Wrexham has been surprising

When his transfer to Wrexham was confirmed over the summer, some Sheffield United fans were critical of Moore.

He scored six goals in 30 appearances for the Yorkshire side, and one of his last actions for the club was a big error in the play-off final vs Sunderland in May.

However, it’s fair to say that Moore has been something of a revelation since moving to the Racecourse Ground.

Phil Parkinson has built his team around the striker, who already has five goals and one assist in seven matches.
