Wrexham ace will now be giving Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney a major headache – the plan seemed obvious

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have some big issues to address at Wrexham in 2025.

Wrexham are flying high in the current campaign and could secure a third-straight promotion next year.

However, while things are going well, the Red Dragons must ensure standards do not slip on and off the pitch.

This means Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have several calls to make as we head toward 2025.

There are a number of Wrexham players out on loan whose future will need to be decided in the next few weeks.

Elsewhere, there are several stars set to be out of contract at the Racecourse Ground in 2025.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney must make Steven Fletcher contract decision

Ollie Palmer and Ryan Barnett have already agreed fresh terms with the club in the last few months.

However, Jack Marriott, Steven Fletcher, Jacob Mendy and Mark Howard are just some of the names who, as things stand, will leave Wales for free next year.

Fletcher is already 37 and will be 38 by the time the current season draws to a close in May.

In turn, it seemed obvious that the Scotsman would not be offered a new deal and allowed to find a new club.

But Fletcher’s impact for Wrexham over the last couple of months suggests that Reynolds and McElhenney may have to offer him a new contract.

Signing such an old player for another year doesn’t make a lot of financial sense, but the former Sunderland man is proving to still be a valuable member of the squad.

Fletcher stole headlines for Wrexham vs Blackpool, coming off the bench to net a late winner for his team.

He now has as many league goals as Ollie Palmer and more than Paul Mullin despite playing a lot fewer minutes.

What Phil Parkinson said about Steven Fletcher

The Scotsman also came on as a substitute to put Wrexham in front against Cambridge United earlier this month.

Unlike Thursday, the Red Dragons were forced to settle for a point in that match thanks to a late penalty.

But Parkinson still praised Fletcher for his cameo, dubbing him a quality player.

He said: “He’s a very high-quality player which is not something which people don’t know.

“He’s played at a high level and we’re just trying to get him as fit as we possibly can, without over-training him in terms of his knee but he is in a better place now than he has been for a while.”
