Wrexham are in the market to strengthen their forward line ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season.

Wrexham signed Sam Smith for a club record fee from Reading in January 2025.

Smith has been praised by Ryan Reynolds for his fantastic form in the second half of 2024/25, scoring seven league goals to help the Dragons clinch promotion.

But with Steven Fletcher leaving and Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin’s futures questioned, a new attacker is being eyed this summer.

Wrexham are interested in Callum Robinson of Cardiff City after he scored 12 Championship goals last term.

Talks with West Ham’s Danny Ings have already taken place ahead of a potential free agent move.

Meanwhile, it was reported by one journalist recently that Wrexham have enquired about Davis Keillor-Dunn of Barnsley, with a fee between £2.5m-£3m thought to be enough to land his signature.

Why Davis Keillor-Dunn left Wrexham

Long-time Wrexham fans should already be familiar with the Barnsley ace, but supporters who have come on board from around the world following the takeover may not know that the attacker has actually already lined up at the Racecourse Ground.

The now 27-year-old joined the Welsh side on January 16, 2020, after spending five months without a club.

Keillor-Dunn made just six appearances for Wrexham, in which he scored one goal.

He left the Red Dragons in August 2020, signing for Oldham Athletic on a free transfer.

Shortly after the move, the Sunderland-born ace opened up on why he decided to leave Wrexham for Oldham, pointing toward his desire to play at a higher level and the opportunity to be managed by Harry Kewell, as per Leader Live.

He said: “I want to play as high as I can and obviously the manager at Oldham is Harry Kewell. He was the main thing for me and cemented where I want to be.

“He has got ridiculous amounts of experience and played in my position as well so it is even better.

“I can’t complain with the management there and it is going into the Football League with a great club so I had to jump at the chance.

“It was just something that made a lot of sense. Oldham came in with a concrete offer and the gaffer at Wrexham was saying we are going to sort something out in the future,” said Keillor-Dunn.

“It was an offer from Oldham but nothing on the table for me to sign there and then at Wrexham so it was more in favour of Oldham.

“I was speaking to both clubs but Oldham made a lot more sense with the league and manager.”

Wrexham record transfers

If Keillor-Dunn does make a return to Wrexham this month for the fee mentioned above, he would become their new record signing.

Smith currently holds that accolade, with Episode 5 of Welcome to Wrexham revealing that the North American-backed side paid £2.02m for him.

He was the third record transfer in the space of just over six months, with Ollie Rathbone and Modou Faal arriving for big fees in the summer of 2024.

PlayerReported transfer fee
Sam Smith£2.02m
Modou Faal£590,000
Ryan Longman£500,000
Ollie Rathbone£480,000
Sebastian Revan£350,000

Whether it be Keillor-Dunn or someone else, it seems likely that the transfer record will be smashed once again this summer, now that Wrexham are preparing for life in the Championship.
