He’s scored six goals in three games but this ‘terrific’ former Wrexham player still can’t find a club

As Wrexham continue to strengthen their squad this summer, one former fan favourite is still in the footballing wilderness trying to find a new club.

Phil Parkinson has wasted no time ruthlessly switching up his Wrexham squad, letting the likes of Paul Mullin go while spending over £21m on nine new players.

Despite this, Wrexham have been told they still need more quality additions if they are to have a chance of competing in the Championship.

Meanwhile, one of the players Wrexham released at the start of the summer is struggling to find anywhere to play for the 2025/26 season.

Jordan Davies is on fire for the PFA free agent squad

For the past month, we’ve followed the progress of Jordan Davies as he’s been training with and playing friendlies for the PFA free agent squad.

Davies, along with another former Red Dragons’ star, Anthony Forde, has made good progress with the free agent side. Two weeks ago, Davies had bagged four goals in two games for the team.

Now, he’s registered another brace to take his tally to six goals in three games. Admittedly, the PFA team have been facing Under-21 squads from Premier League sides or lower league teams, but the fact that Davies is in good form will surely bring a smile to the face of any devoted Wrexham fan.

Interestingly, the likes of Fabio Borini are in the squad with Davies at the moment, and with two weeks left of the summer transfer window, it remains to be seen whether any of those players can land a new deal with a club. Obviously, free agents can sign for clubs beyond the deadline, but those kinds of deals are far less likely.

Why is Jordan Davies still looking for a new club?

Phil Parkinson once described Davies as a ‘terrific’ player and the Welshman was a firm favourite of both Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds in the early days of their Wrexham reign.

The midfielder, in his peak years, was capable of transforming a game with his late bursts into the box, penchant for long-distance strikes, and excellent link-up play in the middle of the park. Indeed, he played a key role in Wrexham’s early success under Parkinson.

However, injuries have absolutely ruined Davies’ career. He was deemed surplus to requirements at Wrexham, which was partly due to the fact the club outgrew his ability level anyway, but fitness concerns certainly didn’t help.

Davies had a difficult season with Grimsby Town during a loan spell in 2024/25, with Parkinson admitting he felt sorry for the midfielder prior to announcing he would be released by Wrexham.

One would assume that those fitness issues are the main thing deterring clubs from snapping him up this summer. Hopefully, if he keeps plugging away and scoring goals at the rate he is for the PFA squad, Davies will land on his feet in the near future.
