Higher than Celtic… Where £150m Wrexham rank among the world’s most valuable clubs is crazy

It’s no secret that Wrexham have seen their club value skyrocket since the takeover of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. But few would guess that they’re becoming one of the most valuable football clubs in the world.

When Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over Wrexham in late 2021, nobody would’ve predicted what would unfold over the next four years.

To go from National League competitors to Championship new boys is an astonishing feat in itself. But to become a globally-recognised football team and brand is something no other team has done before. At least not in the way Wrexham have done so.

Last season, Phil Parkinson guided the Dragons to a 2nd place finish in League One. It was previously reported that Wrexham would be worth £150million after promotion to the Championship, which marks an incredible 7400% increase on the £2million that Reynolds and McElhenney bought the club for.

Amid swirling rumours of a potential part-sale at the Racecourse, with Reynolds and McElhenney considering selling a stake in Wrexham worth £350million, we look at where the club currently ranks among the world’s most valuable football clubs.

Wrexham rank 69th among the world’s most valuable football clubs

Using this £150million valuation as Wrexham’s latest value as a club, it would rank them well inside the world’s top 100 most valuable football clubs. The list, perhaps unsurprisingly, it topped by Real Madrid who Transfermarkt value at £1.14billion, followed by Man City in 2nd place with a valuation of £1.13billion.

The list has six clubs valued at over £1billion: Real Madrid and Man City, along with Arsenal, Barcelona, PSG, and Chelsea. Meanwhile, Wrexham’s £150million valuation would place them in 69th, just behind Red Bull Salzburg and just in front of Parma.

Incredibly, Wrexham rank above Scottish giants Celtic (£113million), Sheffield United (£134million), and not far behind Dutch giants Ajax (£176million) and French outfit Lyon (£166million).

A £350m stake in Wrexham shows how much hope Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have

Of course, this £150million valuation of Wrexham was only a speculative one, albeit from a very prolific football finance expert in Kieran Maguire.

It’s hypothetical to consider Wrexham among the world’s 100 most valuable clubs. Nonetheless, Wrexham fans will be pinching themselves to hear that their club is likely valued among some of the most well-known and established teams in Europe.

And if the club eventually sells a £350million stake then it will bring in a new, huge influx of wealth. It also shows how much hope that Reynolds and McElhenney have for the club, to already value a single stake at that amount.

Reynolds predicted Wrexham will be in the Premier League within 10 years, and that was two years ago. Promotion to the Premier League within a season or two would see this incredible journey take another unbelievable turn, and it would surely see Wrexham shoot even further up the list of valuable football teams.
