Paul Mullin’s Wrexham situation seems to have no clear ending. But we might now have some clarity on what Phil Parkinson is planning for the striker.
Paul Mullin has been in headlines a lot recently. There’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding the former Cambridge United man’s future at the club, following the Wrexham’s promotion to the Championship under Phil Parkinson.
In the second half of last season, Parkinson barely played Mullin. He barely even included him in matchday squads in League One with Mullin playing just once after January.
Since the end of the season, Mullin has been linked with Wigan Athletic. That link has since gone cold, though Mullin has been well in headlines after recent comments he made about his game time.
Mullin said he doesn’t know why Parkinson dropped him at Wrexham, speaking in a recent episode of Welcome to Wrexham. In the same episode, Mullin shared his one Wrexham wish, which is to play for the club in the Championship.

Paul Mullin’s Wrexham wish now in jeopardy after Ryan Hardie signing
Wrexham don’t have a whole heap of strikers in their ranks going into the new season. There’s every chance that Mullin could prove his fitness and prove his form in the pre-season, and be in Parkinson’s first matchday squad of the 2025/26 season.
But Mullin’s dream of playing for Wrexham in the Championship has now hit a roadblock after the club confirmed the signing of Ryan Hardie. Hardie has joined Wrexham from Plymouth Argyle in a £700,000 deal, becoming the Dragons’ first signing of the summer transfer window in the process.
Parkinson has hailed the signing of Hardie, too, suggesting that he comes in and goes well above Mullin and likely Ollie Palmer in the pecking order. If Wrexham sign another striker in the coming weeks, which certainly seems possible, it could spell the end of both Mullin and Palmer.

3 reasons why Wrexham should keep Paul Mullin for next season
Paul Mullin is a Wrexham legend
There’s no doubting Mullin’s status as a modern day Wrexham legend. If he’s shipped off this summer, and if Parkinson handles the situation poorly, then it certainly won’t go down well with fans and likely not with the players too.
What’s more; if Mullin leaves in a poor manner then it won’t be a great look for potential new signings in the transfer market either.
Paul Mullin’s goals record speaks for itself
Mullin knows where the back of the net is. He was prolific in the National League and then in League Two, albeit coming to a halt in League One. Though he had his injury issues last time round.
Recently, Lee Trundle backed Mullin to be prolific in the Championship. That’s coming from a player who knows the second tier better than most, and so it might be worth Parkinson giving Mullin a run out in the Championship. If it doesn’t work out then there’s always the January window.
| Season | Mullin apps | Mullin goals |
| National League 21/22 | 39 | 28 |
| National League 22/23 | 46 | 38 |
| League Two 23/24 | 38 | 24 |
| League One 24/25 | 26 | 3 |
Wrexham won’t make much if they sell Paul Mullin this summer
Mullin is among the Wrexham players out of contract in 2026. Selling him this summer, after the season he’s just had, won’t see the Dragons make back all that much. Wrexham aren’t short of cash either and so it’s not like they really need to sell the 30-year-old.
It’s even been reported that Wrexham could let Mullin leave for free this summer. If that’s the case, let him stay. Mullin is desperate to stay and that’s the kind of mentality that Parkinson needs in the side.
