All the talk is about Ollie Palmer this morning, after the Wrexham hero inspired a late comeback win over Hull City on Tuesday night.

Wrexham fans were expecting another defeat on Tuesday night, when their team went 3-1 down against Hull City with 10 minutes to play.

But Ollie Palmer came off the bench and rescued the game. Palmer scored twice as Wrexham beat Hull City on penalties following a 3-3 draw.

Phil Parkinson’s side progress into the second round of the cup, whilst picking up their first win of the 2025/26 season after Wrexham’s opening day defeat against Southampton last weekend.

For Palmer, it could be a turning point. It’s widely expected that Palmer leaves Wrexham this summer but his positive performance on Tuesday will give Parkinson plenty of food for thought.

Wrexham win cash prize after progressing in the Carabao Cup

Under co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, Wrexham certainly aren’t short of a bit of cash. Going into this summer, it was reported that Wrexham are now worth £150million as a club following promotion from League One, with separate reports that the club has a £25million transfer budget for this summer’s transfer window.

And so far we’ve seen Wrexham break their transfer record to sign Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest in a £5million deal, with further fees spent on the likes of Liberato Cacace, Kieffer Moore, George Thomason and Ryan Hardie. And now Reynolds and Mac have seen another bit of cash flow into the club, albeit a very small amount in the grand scheme of things.

The prize money for winning the first round game of the Carabao Cup is £5,000. Reynolds and Mac have Palmer’s late heroics on Tuesday night to thank for the cash boost.

How much Wrexham could make in each round of the Carabao Cup?

Progressing in the Carabao Cup certainly won’t make Wrexham even richer than they might already be. But it’s money nonetheless and if they can go all the way this season then they stand to earn a cool £100,000.

And given the fact that they’re now a Championship side with a rapidly improving side, few would completely write off Wrexham in the cup this season. Realistically, though, reaching any ‘finals’ round in the tournament would be a huge success.

RoundMoney
First Round winners£5,000
Second Round winners£7,00
Third Round winners£10,000
Fourth Round winners£15,000
Quarter-Final winners£25,000
Semi-Final winners£25,000
Winner£100,000

The FA Cup though would prove much more lucrative to progress in. This season’s FA Cup winners will pocket £2million in prize money whilst Wrexham will earn £25,000 minimum, as they start in the third round this season.
