Lewis O’Brien has previously spoken about his vast ambitions to reach the Premier League, as it becomes clear that he shares one thing in common with Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.

Wrexham have signed Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest, with the midfielder signing a three-year deal at the Racecourse Ground.

The Red Dragons have broken the bank with the deal to bring in O’Brien, and such a deal shows the true ambition of Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac as they look to take on the challenge of the Championship in the upcoming season.

Phil Parkinson was keen to bring in a midfielder this summer with vast Championship experience and quality, with O’Brien ticking all boxes. However, he also has one thing in common with both Reynolds and Mac, as shown in one previous interview.

Lewis O’Brien’s Premier League ambitions mirror Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac

Wrexham signing Lewis O’Brien has joined with vast Championship experience, but he has also spent time in the Premier League.

After signing for Nottingham Forest ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League season, O’Brien struggled to cement a regular spot in Steve Cooper’s side, notching just 13 appearances before being loaned out to DC United.

O’Brien has regrets over his time at Nottingham Forest, but such an experience hasn’t led to him being short-sighted on his ambitions to return to the top flight.

“When they [Forest] did come calling with the interest, it was a no-brainer really to say yes because I believed in myself and I believed that I could play at that level,” said O’Brien to The Mirror in 2024. “Unfortunately, it didn’t go the way I wanted it to but hopefully there might be another chance in the future to try and play in the league again.”

Both Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have also spoken about their Premier League aims.

Mac has previously said: “Our ultimate goal is to build a sustainable model that will allow us to not only get to the Premier League, but sustain in the Premier League and eventually win the Premier League and be in the Champions League.”

Lewis O’Brien’s quality will transform Phil Parkinson’s side

Wrexham have truly kicked into gear in recent weeks with their signings, as they prepare brilliantly for the challenge of the 2025/26 Championship season.

Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are keen to back Phil Parkinson this summer, and the Lewis O’Brien deal proves that.

Red Dragons fans will soon see that O’Brien will completely transform the Wrexham midfield and the entire side as a result.

Not only does O’Brien have the perfect mindset to match both Reynolds’ and Mac’s ambitions, but the quality he possesses places Wrexham a step closer to the likelihood of Premier League football.
