Paul Mullin was back in action for Wigan Athletic over the weekend, facing off with Plymouth Argyle.

Wrexham played their last Championship fixture on Friday evening, taking on old League One rivals Birmingham City.

The Red Dragons were once again unable to pick up a win at home, drawing 1-1 with Birmingham.

Elsewhere this weekend, several former players and loanees were in EFL action.

Ollie Palmer scored for Swindon Town again, meaning he is now rivalling Wrexham centre-forward Kieffer Moore on the goal front.

Palmer’s former strike partner in North Wales, Paul Mullin, also took to the field on Saturday afternoon.

Paul Mullin features for Wigan Athletic after injury scare

Mullin’s form has improved a great deal since he left Wrexham for Wigan Athletic.

He has already matched his League One goal tally from last season, netting three in 10 before Saturday.

The Latics were up against Ryan Hardie’s former side, Plymouth Argyle, on October 4.

They went into the clash on a difficult run of form that had seen them slip down to 14th in the third tier.

Wigan lost to Cardiff City last weekend, and Mullin picked up an injury in that match.

He recovered in time to face Plymouth but started the fixture on the bench.

Wigan went 1-0 down in the 70th minute before Ryan Lowe opted to bring on Mullin to add some firepower to the Latics’ frontline.

They managed to net an equaliser in the 82nd minute via Fraser Murray, and that’s how the tie ended.

Paul Mullin stats for Wigan Athletic vs Plymouth Argyle

Mullin’s impact was limited, which isn’t surprising considering he came on after 74 minutes.

The Wrexham loanee managed to have one shot during his time on the pitch.

He ended the tie with 10 touches, one dribble completed, and made one key pass.

The 30-year-old also won two of his three duels and lost possession three times.

Wigan are next in action on Tuesday evening when they face Wolverhampton Wanderers’ U21s in an EFL Trophy match.

Lowe played a lot of youngsters during their last outing in that competition, so there’s a chance Mullin does not make the team versus Wolves.
