Paul Mullin has moved to Wigan Athletic from Wrexham, and the Latics were in action on Saturday.
Wrexham lost to Groningen in both of their pre-season friendlies on August 2 – 1-0 in the opening game and 3-1 later in the day.
The Red Dragons are now a Championship team, and their proper season is set to kick off next weekend against Southampton.
However, Wigan Athletic remain in League One, so their 2025/26 campaign officially began on Saturday with a home clash against Northampton Town.
Paul Mullin has moved to the North West on loan for the 2025/26 season after losing his place under Phil Parkinson earlier this year.

Paul Mullin makes competitive Wigan Athletic debut vs Northampton Town
Mullin did not feature for Wrexham after January 28 in the league and will have been hoping that misfortune does not repeat itself at Wigan.
Manager Ryan Lowe started the striker in every match during their pre-season campaign.
However, when the team news was announced an hour before kick-off against Northampton, Mullin was not in the eleven.
He started the tie on the bench and watched on as his teammates took a 3-1 lead in their season opener.
Lowe eventually brought Mullin on for his competitive debut in the 84th minute against Northampton.
The striker took two minutes to have his first shot on goal, getting himself into a great position before stabbing his effort straight at the goalkeeper.
He did little else of note during his remaining time on the pitch, managing four touches.

Paul Mullin praises Wrexham
Though his Wrexham career came to an end in unwelcome circumstances, Mullin still loves the club.
Speaking this week, he reflected on his stint with the Dragons and expressed hope they will secure a top-half finish in the Championship.
He said: “I never want to see the club go anywhere but upwards and I hope even more success comes their way.
“I will always be grateful for what the club gave me and I will always be a fan of the club, it has become a massive part of my life and always will be.
“Hopefully the good times that we started can continue and I look forward to hopefully seeing them challenging at the top end of the table next season.”
