Humphrey Ker reveals why Wrexham’s owners almost bought another National League club
McElhenney and Ker explored a number of clubs before deciding on Wrexham and speaking on the latest episode of the ‘Sports Agents’ podcast, Ker has revealed a bizarre reason why there was interest in one particular club.
Hartlepool and Carlisle are widely known as clubs the Wrexham owners were interested in but another National League side in Aldershot Town was also mooted.
Ker stated: “Aldershot was one but that’s only because they came first in the National League alphabetically and Rob was like what about Aldershot?”
Wrexham fans are now incredibly relieved that it was the Racecourse Ground where Rob and Ryan chose to make their home but it could have been a different story.
Reynolds and McElhenney have embraced football and their knowledge of the game is improving all the time – it really is exciting times for the Red Dragons.
Why Wrexham’s owners have invested in other football clubs
Reynolds and McElhenney invested in Club Necaxa back in April 2024 as their football empire slowly builds across the world.
The ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series has played a big part in increasing the club’s popularity and fan base and McElhenney wanted to be part of a similar experience in Mexico.
McElhenney stated: “I just wanted to go and be a part of a Latin experience, and so Necaxa was just a club there, for us, that had the same ethos and feeling of a Wrexham.”
As their success grows, it will be interesting to see whether the duo seek further opportunities to invest in clubs around the world.
