Wrexham moved a number of players on during the 2025 winter transfer window, some of whom have fared better than others.

Wrexham ended up seeing several of their stars link up with fellow League One side Burton Albion in the winter.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson joined the club after his short-term contract at the Racecourse Ground expired.

Rob McElhenney sent a message to James Jones after the midfielder linked up with Burton, while Anthony Forde also signed in February after his contract with the Red Dragons was ended.

Away from the Burton trio, Wrexham sent another four players out on loan or on permanent deals in the latest January window.

How Aaron James is faring since leaving Wrexham on loan

One of those stars was 19-year-old sensation Aaron James, who joined Warrington Town on loan for the remainder of 2024/25

After the defender’s transfer was confirmed, Phil Parkinson said: “Aaron has done well when he’s played in the first team and we felt the time was right for him to get sustained first-team action at Warrington Town.”

The centre-back has since become a regular starter for his new club, but results have not exactly gone his way.

James has played 15 times for Warrington in the second half of 2024/25, operating at centre-back, left-back, right-back, and even in midfield.

However, the club have won just one of those 15 games and drawn two, losing the remaining 12.

This, unsurprisingly, has seen Warrington relegated out of the National League North with games to spare.

Aaron James still has bright Wrexham future

The teenager may not have had the best of stints out on loan, but he should still have a bright future in Wales.

Parkinson said James was ‘immense’ after his performance in an EFL Trophy meeting with Port Vale in the first half of 2024/25.

The following cup clash saw the Chester-born star score his first and only senior Wrexham goal to date in a 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra.

A loan move for James was obviously the correct option in the winter, and it’ll be interesting to see if he is now given a more prominent role with Wrexham come 2025/26, though it does seem somewhat unlikely if promotion to the Championship is secured.
