Wrexham have released their retained list and one decision in particular has a lot of fans upset on social media.
Wrexham have started on their changes for the upcoming 2025/26 Championship season following their promotion from League One, starting with the club’s retained list.
Phil Parkinson and co have made their final decision on who’s staying and who’s going and whilst there are decisions in there that were expected, there’s also one or two that have left the fans with a lot to say.
One decision that falls into the latter category regards Steven Fletcher.

Wrexham release their retained list – who’s leaving?
Wrexham released their retained list on Friday afternoon and the club is set to release eight players in Fletcher, Mark Howard who announced his Wrexham departure earlier in the week, Josh Adam, Jordan Davies, Harry Dean, Brad Foster, Liam Hall, and Sam Dalby.
Meanwhile, the club has offered a new deal to Callum Edwards and handed an extension to Aaron James.
Fletcher, now 38, leaves after a two-year stint at the Racecourse where he scored 16 goals in total, all coming in the league, whilst making 77 appearances in all competitions.

What the Wrexham fans are saying as Steven Fletcher released
Fletcher suggested he wanted to stay at Wrexham in a recent post. But the club had other plans and he’ll now become a free agent, and what happens next for the Scotsman remains to be seen.
But there’s a lot of Wrexham fans who are sad about the decision and some who think he should’ve been kept on for at least another season.
One Wrexham fan posted online: “Hits the heart that one. An unbelievable player at times and you could see his class,” whilst a similar comment read: “Out of all the players that have left under Rob and Ryan, this one hurts the most. Probably because he could have done a job in the Championship. Absolutely love the guy.”
This Wrexham fan added: “Genuinely sad about this. Not that I don’t understand, but man did I love cheering for him. One of my favourite players. Very, very disappointing.”
And this supporter said this was both a ‘disappointing’ and ‘poor’ decision, posting online: “Disappointing. Deserved a send off for what he’s done for the club. Other clubs do it. It’s called respect… Poor.”
A final comment read: “Incredibly stupid decision this.”
