Wrexham’s transfer window took an exciting turn on Thursday when links to Tom Cairney emerged.

Wrexham have been linked with Tom Cairney at Fulham ahead of the summer transfer window opening in two weeks.

The Fulham legend could be on the move this summer after 10 years at Craven Cottage and Cairney could become Wrexham’s highest-paid player in history.

It’s another name to keep an eye on with more and more being linked with summer moves to the Racecourse, seemingly every day.

And it looks like Phil Parkinson will look towards the Premier League for some potential new recruits with Jamie Vardy linked with a move to Wrexham as well.

Him and Cairney arriving would add some real quality and experience to the ranks. But Wrexham’s Premier League plight doesn’t have to stop there.

Wrexham urged to sign Ben Davies and Louie Barry this summer

Speaking on the Rob Ryan Red podcast, journalists Rich Fay and Nathan Salt were discussing some players who the Dragons should potentially look to sign this summer, with two being Louie Barry and Welsh legend Ben Davies.

Barry blew away the competition in League One last season scoring 15 in 23 on loan at Stockport County, who were recently knocked out of the League One play-offs. He then went on loan to Hull City but featured four times before injury ruled him out for the campaign.

Fay said: “He is a player who on his day, I think has proven himself way above League One standard. You’d say at his very best he’s one of the best players in the Championship. Genuinely, if he’s injury free doing what he does best, he is as good as you can get at that level.”

Davies meanwhile is out of contract at Spurs this summer. He’s been with the club for 11 years now and has more than 350 appearances with the club to his name, as well as 94 caps for Wales.

Salt said: “I think he’s one of those players who’s maybe been caught up at a Premier League level and in the pace of the game. Obviously he’s transitioned from a a left-back to to a centre-back now… I do think it would be the perfect fit for for us to have someone like him in the heart of the defence.”

Tom Cairney update gives huge insight into Wrexham’s summer transfer plans

Now a Championship side, signings of this calibre have all of a sudden become very realistic for Wrexham. And crucially it looks like the club is ready to really start spending on player wages in a bid to attract the biggest and the best possible.

Cairney reportedly earns a wage of £27,000-a-week at Fulham. That’s £20,000-a-week more than the highest-paid Wrexham player. So that offers an insight into how high Wrexham are willing to go in terms of wages this summer.

For the likes of Barry, who’d likely have to be a loan signing anyway, and Davies who’s no doubt on a hefty wage at Spurs, Wrexham could not only be an attractive destination because of their story, but because of the wages potentially on offer too.

These two would add huge quality to the side and at both ends of the pitch too. But for now they remain speculative Wrexham transfer targets.
