Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has already become a fan favourite at his new club, just over a week since Wrexham exit

Wrexham continue to search for another striker but one forward let go by Phil Parkinson is on fire with his new club.

Wrexham picked up a 1-1 draw with Birmingham City on Thursday night, bouncing back from defeat at Shrewsbury Town.

That performance simply wasn’t good enough but Wrexham were much better against the Blues and could have claimed all three points.

Phil Parkinson will be pleased with that reaction but will also be looking for progress in the transfer market ahead of facing Stevenage on Tuesday night.

Ryan Longman has joined Wrexham from Hull City but Parkinson has admitted having bids rejected for other potential signings.

Wrexham want another striker and the exit of Jon Dadi Bodvarsson earlier in January may just point to an addition being made.

Burton Albion boss on Jon Dadi Bodvarsson

Wrexham signed Bodvarsson on a free transfer in October as Parkinson faced an injury crisis up top.

Parkinson’s Bolton connections helped him sign Bodvarsson with the Icelandic forward penning a short-term deal.

We only saw Bodvarsson feature in four league games for Wrexham, tallying just 91 minutes of League One action.

Unsurprisingly, Wrexham allowed Bodvarsson to leave as his contract expired earlier in January.

Bodvarsson immediately joined Burton Albion and he is already making a huge impact.

Bodvarsson scored in Burton’s 2-1 win at Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night and backed it up with a brace against Rotherham United on Saturday.

Burton won 4-2 to boost their League One survival hopes with Bodvarsson proving to be an inspired signing so far.

Brewers boss Gary Bowyer has told Burton Albion’s official website that he simply doesn’t have enough praise for Bodvarsson.

Bowyer noted that Burton players have really taken to Bodvarsson whilst hailing his hold-up play in the final third.

Bowyer even feels that Bodvarsson has already become a fan favourite after just three games for the club.

“I can’t praise him enough with the impact that he’s had considering he arrived last Thursday,” said Bowyer.

“He’s one of those players with the wonderful career that he’s had so far that the lads admire him and how much of a professional he is, they’ve tapped into him and he’s gone and delivered it with the goals he’s getting himself.

“I don’t want to call him an ‘old fashioned’ number nine because it’s not trendy anymore, but he is that with his hold up play. You can also see the impact he’s had on Rumarn (Burrell) in terms of teaching him how to play centre forward as well and that’s what we wanted to bring him in.

“You could also see at the end there how much of an impact he’s had on the fans, it’s just fantastic that they’ve took him in so quickly and that’s reflected in his performances,” he added.

Wrexham striker search continues after Bodvarsson exit

Wrexham fans probably just have to laugh about Bodvarsson’s goals.

For as hard as Bodvarsson worked in a Wrexham shirt, goals just never really looked all that threatening.

The same could be said of Sam Dalby too, yet both strikers now can’t stop scoring away from Wrexham.

That’s just how it goes sometimes and whilst Bodvarsson shines for his new club, Parkinson is chasing a new forward of his own.

Wrexham are expected to move for Michael Smith with the Sheffield Wednesday striker seemingly out of favour now.

Smith ticks a number of similar boxes to Bodvarsson; experienced, hard-working, physical centre forward; the difference is that Smith is a proven goalscorer at this level.

Bodvarsson has never been particularly prolific and whilst he has made a hot start at Burton Albion, Wrexham need better in order to win another promotion.
