Wrexham sit second in the League One table and will have dreams of a third straight promotion under Phil Parkinson.

Wrexham fans would rarely celebrate a Shrewsbury Town victory, but Saturday brought that moment.

The Shrews beat Birmingham City 3-2 on Saturday afternoon, winning the first game of Gareth Ainsworth’s reign in style.

Wrexham took full advantage just hours later, beating Exeter City 3-0 in convincing fashion at the STōK Cae Ras.

Max Cleworth, Ollie Pamer and Ollie Rathbone are all on the scoresheet in a superb home win for Wrexham, with Wrexham fans praising Cleworth’s display.

That result takes Wrexham back up to second place once again as Phil Parkinson saw his side bounce back from defeat at Stockport County.

Steve Bruce on Wrexham

There is a long, long way to go in this League One season.

Wrexham still have 30 games to play with just over a third of the season gone.

This has been a fine start but Wrexham know there is a lot of work ahead in order to win a third promotion in a row.

Blackpool boss Steve Bruce has now offered his verdict on Wrexham whilst discussing the League One promotion picture.

Speaking to the Blackpool Gazette, Bruce has predicted that Birmingham will end up winning the League One title by 20 points.

Bruce noted that Wrexham are ‘very good’ though and will be in the mix for promotion just like Stockport County.

Bruce believes that League One is now incredibly competitive and has enjoyed his time in the division since becoming Blackpool boss earlier in the season.

“I mean Birmingham of course will probably win it by 20 points or so I would have thought,” said Bruce.

“They’re the standout team in the division but there are a lot that are chasing them. Very good sides like Wrexham, and Stockport, and there’s always one or two who give you a bit of a shock.

“It’s very competitive really, and I’ve enjoyed the honesty of it. I’ll not change it, I think. It’s a long slog all season because there’s some very good teams in the division,” he added.

Bruce joins Wycombe Wanderers boss in predicting success for Wrexham

Wrexham are going strong right now and Bruce has become the latest manager to predict big things for Parkinson and co.

Just last week, table-topping Wycombe Wanderers boss Matt Bloomfield backed Wrexham to be ‘right at the top of the league’.

Bruce seemingly agrees with that verdict but Wrexham must continue to improve – especially on the road.

Wrexham have struggled away from home at times this season and that must improve if Wrexham are to win promotion.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds seem ready to splash the cash in January with Wrexham targeting another striker.

That could be just what Wrexham need in order to achieve promotion and take another step forward in this remarkable journey.
