Wrexham will be watching Wycombe Wanderers very closely on Tuesday night as they take on Rotherham United.

The League One promotion race continues but with the end of the season now in sight.

Wrexham beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 on Saturday afternoon to move back up into second place in the League One table.

That was a major boost for Phil Parkinson, especially after Wrexham lost at Reading last Tuesday night.

There is a long way to go yet though and Wrexham may yet be back down in third place by Wednesday morning.

Wycombe take on Rotherham United on Tuesday night and a win for the Chairboys would see them leapfrog Wrexham once again.

Steve Evans shares new Wrexham promotion prediction

Wrexham have a huge game against Stockport County to come this weekend but fans will be watching Wycombe’s clash with interest.

A defeat for Wycombe in South Yorkshire would leave Wrexham in the box seat for a third promotion in a row with just nine games to play.

Steve Evans could do Wrexham a huge favour in the promotion race having recently made a prediction about Parkinson’s promotion hopes.

Speaking after Rotherham’s 1-0 defeat at the STōK Cae Ras, Evans suggested that Wrexham were ‘totally outplayed’ but their 1-0 win showed their promotion credentials.

Ahead of facing Wycombe, Evans has now offered another prediction – and this time explained exactly how he thinks Wrexham will go up.

Evans has told the Rotherham Advertiser that Wycombe will be the team following Birmingham City into the Championship automatically.

The Scot believes that Wrexham will go up but only through the League One play-offs, believing that Parkinson’s side are good enough to be promoted through that route.

“Tuesday is a real test for us,” said Evans. “Wycombe, for me, are a team that will be promoted. I think that they and Birmingham City will be the two that go up automatically.

“I think Wrexham will also grace the Championship because they’re good enough to be promoted in the play-offs,” he added.

Wrexham will hope to avoid League One play-offs

Wrexham were desperate to reach a Wembley final last month but lost to Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy semi-finals.

Now, Wrexham are just as desperate to avoid needing a Wembley final to secure promotion.

Heading into the play-offs is always a lottery, but the teams behind Wrexham look strong this season.

Charlton Athletic have been in great form whilst Stockport County are only six points away from Wrexham as things stand.

The final play-off place would likely go to one of Huddersfield Town, Bolton Wanderers or Reading with Leyton Orient still in with a shout.

There are some very strong sides in there and Bolton have been impressive under Steven Schumacher.

Reading comfortably beat Wrexham last week, so the prospect of a two-legged semi-final and a final against these sides just sounds incredibly stressful.

Wrexham will hope to avoid that by finishing second in the League One table and ultimately prove Evans’ prediction wrong.
