Wrexham’s 2-1 victory over Blackpool has put them back in the driving seat for Automatic promotion.

Phil Parkinson’s side were superb in their victory at Bloomfield Road and the 2-1 score line flattered the home side as James McClean and Ollie Rathbone scored two excellent second half goals.

Matty James ‘pulled the strings’ in midfield alongside George Dobson’s outstanding display, driving from deep and setting up McClean with an exquisite switch of play.

The victory now sets up a League One showdown with Charlton Athletic at the Racecourse Ground and the Addicks can also move into contention with victory. Boss Nathan Jones has started the mind games early.

Nathan Jones fires dig at Wrexham

As per the Leader, Charlton boss Jones has already fired a dig at Wrexham ahead of the crunch clash where Championship football next season is on the line.

Speaking on ITV 4’s English Football League highlights, Jones was asked his thoughts on the promotion race and called Wrexham a ‘circus’ when discussing his side’s upcoming clash.

Jones stated: “All we do is take a game as it comes. We are not looking at the play-offs, we are not looking at Burton at home on the final game.

“We’ll finish, we’ll debrief, we’ll breathe a little bit and then we’ll move forward with Wrexham. It’s a bumper game, we have to go to the circus and see what we can get.”

League One promotion race down to the wire

Charlton go into the game unbeaten in their last six outings and have picked up 16 points out of their last possible 18.

Parkinson faces a selection dilemma as Eoghan O’Connell could miss out on facing his former club, whilst midfielder Dobson is also set for a reunion.

With two games remaining, Stockport County cannot yet be discounted for the final automatic promotion spot but it seems a three horse race.

Rob McElhenney has sent a rallying cry to Wrexham fans ahead of the visit of Charlton and the home fans will be more than willing to play their part on a monumental occasion in North Wales.
