‘On fire’ Wrexham loanee may still have future under Phil Parkinson – he’s got six months to prove it

One Wrexham loanee is currently in superb form for his current club, no doubt impressing Phil Parkinson with his displays.

After making nine signings during the 2024 summer transfer window, Phil Parkinson was left with a bloated first-team squad.

This saw the Wrexham manager opt to sanction a number of loans in the most recent window.

Jordan Davies impressed for Wrexham in pre-season, but he has since joined Grimsby Town on loan.

29-year-old forward Billy Waters has moved to Halifax Town until the start of the January transfer window.

Jake Bickerstaff has joined Altrincham FC and goalkeeper Luke McNicholas has signed for Rochdale until the end of 2024/25.

Elsewhere, centre-forward Sam Dalby has made the move up to Scotland, signing for Dundee United on a season-long loan deal.

Sam Dalby could still have Wrexham future under Phil Parkinson

The 24-year-old had made 88 appearances for the Welsh outfit, scoring 12 and assisting 13 in said matches.

However, after the arrival of record-signing Modou Faal, Parkinson opted to loan the Englishman out for the 2024/25 campaign.

Wrexham striker Steven Fletcher offered Dalby advice following the move as the 37-year-old has also plied his trade for Dundee United.

And it is clear the London-born striker has heeded that advice as he is currently on a great run of form for United.

Dalby, who won the Tangerines’ Player of the Month award for October, earned praise from teammate Declan Gallagher after his goal over the weekend, as per Leader Live.

He said: “Our game plan worked well, getting down the outside, getting crosses into the box, and obviously Sam gets his goal. The big man’s on fire just now.”

The Wrexham loanee now has five goals in eight league starts this term and if he keeps up that form for the remainder of his spell in Scotland, Dalby could well do enough to secure himself a long-term future in Wales.

Are Wrexham going to sign a striker in January transfer window

Dalby is out of contract at the Racecourse Ground in 2025 but he may have already done enough to earn a fresh deal, especially when comparing him to Wrexham’s other striking options.

While Dalby is dominating his current teammates in the scoring charts this term, the club’s transfer plans may have some impact on his long-term future.

Reports emerged earlier this month that Wrexham want to sign a centre-forward during the 2025 winter window.

We have since revealed that, already, Parkinson has been offered at least 12 strikers before the window has even opened.

In turn, with a new number nine expected to arrive at Wrexham in the next few months, Dalby will need to continue shining with Dundee United if he is to earn himself a fresh contract with Wrexham.
