Wrexham drew a blank against Harrogate Town on Sunday afternoon as Paul Mullin endured a difficult day in front of goal.

Wrexham were hoping to advance into the second round of the FA Cup but fell flat against the League Two side.

Phil Parkinson watched on as Jack Muldoon’s first-half goal handed Harrogate a 1-0 victory.

Wrexham have enjoyed some decent cup runs under Parkinson but that won’t be happening this season.

Wrexham just couldn’t break Harrogate down despite having more than 20 shots, with only five of them ending up on target, leaving Parkinson to brand the defeat a ‘wake up call’ to his Wrexham players.

Jacob Mendy makes Paul Mullin prediction

Paul Mullin endured a particularly frustrating afternoon for Wrexham.

Mullin just couldn’t find the target and his radar appeared to be off as Wrexham fell to defeat.

Wrexham fans were disappointed with Mullin’s wayward finishing as his usual magic touch in front of goal deserted him.

Mullin has though been praised by teammate Jacob Mendy, who has spoken on the Emirates FA Cup X account about his Wrexham teammates.

Mendy noted that Mullin is a pure ‘goal scoring machine’ before offering prediction about the Wrexham striker.

Mendy believes that Mullin is going to start scoring regularly again ‘really soon’, throwing his support behind Mullin after a mixed start to the campaign.

“Goal scoring machine and I’m sure he will start firing like he normally does really soon,” said Mendy.

Wrexham waiting for Mullin lift-off

Mullin has been prolific ever since signing for Wrexham on a a free transfer back in 2021.

The driving force behind Wrexham’s back-to-back promotions, Mullin smashed 88 goals in 122 league outings before the start of this season.

Mullin underwent surgery over the summer though and that limited his pre-season preparations, even forcing him to miss the start of the season.

A slow start to the campaign was expected but Mullin has scored just once in 11 League One outings this season.

The goal against Charlton Athletic was supposed to kickstart Mullin’s season with Phil Parkinson claiming that Mullin was ‘back to his best’ in training.

Mullin’s return to top form isn’t linear though and there will be highs and lows along the way – as we saw on Sunday.

We would back Mullin to be right among the goals again soon enough and Wrexham really need that to happen with both Jack Marriott and Steven Fletcher out injured.
