Paul Mullin issues ‘disappointing’ claim after Wrexham striker’s goalless run continued vs Birmingham

Paul Mullin was once again off his game when he came on for Wrexham vs Birmingham City on Thursday.

Wrexham drew 1-1 with Birmingham City at the Racecourse Ground – a decent result but one that did little to help their automatic promotion hopes.

Second-place Wycombe Wanderers can now open up a five-point gap on Phil Parkinson’s men if they win their game in hand this weekend.

Huddersfield Town will also overtake the Red Dragons should the Yorkshire outfit pick up six points from their two extra matches.

Ollie Rathbone was praised during Wrexham vs Birmingham, netting a thunderous effort to put his side 1-0 up.

The Midlands outfit equalised shortly after, however, and Parkinson’s strikers, including Paul Mullin, once again failed to step up for their team when needed most.

Paul Mullin message after Wrexham vs Birmingham City

Wrexham are now likely to drop down to fourth in the third tier with Huddersfield four points behind them with two games in hand.

Wycombe have a much better goal-per-game ratio this season as well, in large part because they have forwards who can score regularly.

On paper, a 1-1 draw with a side like Birmingham is decent but some probably feel the match was there for the taking in the second 45.

Now, taking to Instagram on Thursday, Mullin has shared his verdict on the result, being left ‘disappointed’ not to take the three points.

He wrote: “Disappointed to only have came away with a point but some shift from the lads! Onto Tuesday at home!”

Paul Mullin may have just dropped down Wrexham pecking order

As already mentioned, Mullin has now found the net just twice across all of the 2024/25 League One campaign and is currently five matches without a goal.

Given Wrexham can’t afford to drop any more points if they wish to finish second, Parkinson probably needs to stop giving the striker as many chances

Ryan Longman has now completed a transfer from Hull City this week and he will provide another option up front.

Another number nine is still likely needed before deadline day on February 3rd, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Longman used off the bench in place of Mullin going forward.
