Wrexham allowed Thomas O’Connor and Jacob Mendy to join Peterborough United on deadline day, with Phil Parkinson now earning praise for those deals.

Wrexham brought in three signings on transfer deadline day, as Ben Sheaf, Issa Kabore and Dominic Hyam all arrived at the STōK Cae Ras.

The final day of the transfer window also brought departures, as George Evans said goodbye to Wrexham with a move to Burton Albion.

Jacob Mendy also followed Thomas O’Connor to Peterborough United, as the two defenders completed moves to join Darren Ferguson.

Peterborough United chief praises Wrexham’s Phil Parkinson

O’Connor and Mendy joined Wrexham in the National League and played their part in three promotions.

Mendy didn’t officially receive a medal for last season’s success, as he didn’t play enough games to be considered a promotion winner, but try telling anybody at Wrexham that he didn’t deserve a medal around his neck.

Both players slipped down the Wrexham pecking order and have now headed to Peterborough in search of first-team action.

O’Connor impressed for Peterborough in their win over Wycombe Wanderers last week, and Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has reflected on the double move.

Speaking to Peterborough Today, MacAnthony offered praise to Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson by branding him ‘brilliant’.

Parkinson told Peterborough that O’Connor and Mendy would be their best signings, offering both players a great recommendation.

MacAnthony added that Wrexham were an ‘absolute pleasure’ to deal with, and struck a ‘very fair’ deal in terms of wage contributions on both loan deals.

“Wrexham were an absolute pleasure to deal with,” MacAnthony said.

“Their manager, Phil Parkinson, was brilliant. He called us to say his two players would be the best signings we made. They would both be brilliant in the dressing room. He didn’t want to let them out until the end of August, which was fair enough, and Wrexham were very fair with the wage payments we would make,” he added.

Thomas O’Connor and Jacob Mendy can help ease pressure on Darren Ferguson

Wrexham have made a shaky start to life in the Championship, but Peterborough’s start to the League One campaign has been far worse.

The Posh finally won their first game of the season last week, beating Wrexham’s former promotion rivals Wycombe.

Before that, Peterborough had managed just one point from seven games, suffering six defeats in a torrid start to the season.

Now set to face Plymouth Argyle this weekend, Peterborough are looking to move off the bottom of the table and ease the pressure on Ferguson.

Ferguson, a Wrexham hero in his playing days, will certainly believe that O’Connor and Mendy can make a big impact – and their experience of success at Wrexham should come in very handy.
