Former Wrexham hero Darren Ferguson has finally won his first game of the season with some help from Thomas O’Connor and Jacob Mendy.

Wrexham snapped up three signings on transfer deadline day to finish off Phil Parkinson’s summer business.

Ben Sheaf, Issa Kabore and Dominic Hyam arrived to round off an incredible Wrexham transfer window.

Wrexham also allowed a handful of players to leave the STōK Cae Ras, with Thomas O’Connor and Jacob Mendy joining Peterborough United.

Thomas O’Connor and Jacob Mendy help Peterborough United clinch first win

O’Connor joined the Posh on loan on transfer deadline day, before Mendy followed later in the evening.

The pair are now playing under a Wrexham hero in Darren Ferguson, and they made their first starts in a defeat at Huddersfield Town last week.

O’Connor and Mendy both started again on Saturday afternoon and helped Peterborough finally win their first game of the season.

The Posh had claimed just one point in seven games before beating Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 on Saturday.

O’Connor played the full 90 minutes as a left-sided centre-back, while Mendy lasted 60 minutes at left wing-back before being replaced.

Both players have moved on in search of first-team football away from Wrexham and have immediately gone straight into the Peterborough starting XI.

The Wrexham-owned duo are still seeking match sharpness, but will be delighted to have secured a first win with the Posh – and will hope that there are more victories to come.

Peterborough fans impressed with Thomas O’Connor

Mendy was barely seen last season, but O’Connor split time with Lewis Brunt on the left side of Wrexham’s back three.

The Irishman has certainly made an impression, with Peterborough fans praising his display on social media.

‘Matt Garbett & Tom O’Connor are two very special footballers,’ said one fan on X.

‘We won at last! Special mention to Garbett (just superb), O’Connor, Kioso and Bass,’ said another.

‘Harry Leonard, Matt Garbett, Tom O’Connor and Kioso were unreal today,’ added another Posh fan.

‘O’Connor today has been class, I’d like to see him in a back 4 than 5 though,’ said one supporter.

O’Connor has played regular football more recently than Mendy, so it’s no surprise to see him make a fast start to life at Peterborough.

Both players were key in Wrexham’s rise and will make their presence felt over the season, with Wrexham fans no doubt keeping an eye on their performances.
