Wrexham continue to chase promotion from League One with Phil Parkinson’s side sitting third after beating Peterborough United.
Phil Parkinson celebrated 1000 games in management on Saturday afternoon and marked it with a vital Wrexham win.
Steven Fletcher’s late winner handed Wrexham a 1-0 victory over Peterborough United, rising high to head home Ollie Rathbone’s cross.
Wrexham lost at Barnsley on New Year’s Day and really had to hit back in front of the STōK Cae Ras crowd.
Parkinson’s home record is outstanding and Wrexham managed to get the job done – even if fans had to wait a while for that opening goal.
Tuesday’s EFL Trophy clash with Port Vale has now been postponed, leaving Wrexham with a real break.

Phil Parkinson on Wrexham training
Parkinson hinted at George Evans and James Jones featuring in the side against Port Vale but this late postponement has taken that chance away.
This is a blow for the fringe players awaiting an opportunity but presents a chance for everybody to recharge their batteries.
Wrexham have been through a busy period of late and key players will no doubt be dead on their feet right now.
Speaking to CBS Golazo Sports after Saturday’s win over Peterborough, Parkinson praised the ‘incredible resilience’ within the Wrexham squad.
Parkinson noted that Wrexham players have been through an ‘extraordinary’ run of games over the festive period but have stayed strong.
Parkinson added that the focus in Wrexham’s training before facing Peterborough was ‘brilliant’, suggesting that he could sense a real desire to win and finish off this run with a victory.
“It was the 26th, 29th, 1st and today, that’s an extraordinary run of games,” said Parkinson.
“Because we’ve had a few injuries, we haven’t been able to freshen the team up as much as I normally would have done in these circumstances and the lads have shown incredible resilience.
“I spoke to the lads and said ‘look, every team is going to have players with niggles, players not feeling too great, but it’s the group which stands strong and is prepared to keep going when the going gets tough which comes through this period with the points’ and I think that’s key, it’s mental toughness.
“It’s hard, it’s a tough schedule; it’s another training session, it’s another team meeting about the opposition, it’s another day working on set plays but I have to say that yesterday in training, I thought the focus of the group was brilliant and I could sense it in the training yesterday that the lads were ready to finish off the Christmas period with a win,” he added.
Wrexham break comes at the perfect time
Big hitters may have been rested anyway, but the postponement against Port Vale really clears the schedule for Wrexham.
This weekend is also free for Parkinson and co as Wrexham’s clash with Reading has been postponed due to the Royals’ FA Cup commitments.
That means Wrexham’s next league game isn’t until Thursday January 16, presenting a welcome break for Wrexham stars.
The hope is that this mini-break will come at the perfect time, allowing Wrexham players to recharge ahead of a huge game.
Wrexham have come through a busy period with three wins from four and having this period to rest up should be just what the players need.
