Wrexham are preparing to welcome QPR to the Racecourse Ground in their first Championship fixture after the international break.

With just Kieffer Moore and Issa Kabore having featured for their national sides, it has given Phil Parkinson the chance to work with his squad.

New signings such as Ben Sheaf would have used the period away from match action to get up to speed with his new Wrexham teammates.

The fortnight away from Championship fixtures also enables a number of injury-stricken Wrexham stars to continue their recovery and the manager has given an update on the condition of key attacking duo Josh Windass and Nathan Broadhead.

Phil Parkinson hoping to get injured Wrexham stars involved against QPR

Speaking to the Leader, Parkinson has explained how the Red Dragons are using the international break to try and get injured players up to speed ready for the visit of QPR.

Windass suffered a hamstring injury in the opening home match of the season against West Brom, whilst Broadhead missed the 2-0 victory away at Millwall.

Parkinson stated: “They have had a good few days of work and they are getting there. The aim of these two weeks [without a game] is to get those players who we haven’t seen much of, as close as we can to being involved in the QPR game. And if not the QPR game, the Norwich game.

“The next couple of international breaks, when we’ve had more games it’s more of a chance to rest players who have played, but at this stage, we don’t feel that’s needed.

“We had a good week on the training pitch and then get everyone back in on Monday for the build up to the next game.”

Broadhead withdrew from Wales duty after being called up by Craig Bellamy and Parkinson will be hoping he can count on at least one of his creative duo for their next encounter.

Wrexham’s long-term absentees will be worried about their futures after Championship squad announcement

Parkinson named his Championship squad at the conclusion of the summer transfer window and left one space in his 25-man list.

Players such as Jay Rodriguez and Ollie Rathbone are long-term absentees after picking up injuries in pre-season, whilst Danny Ward is also out for a significant period of time.

It means that Parkinson can dip into the free agent market like he has done on past occasions, or it will be a race against time to see which player can return to full fitness first.

There are likely to be further departures from the Racecourse in the January window, however, for now the focus is back to matters on the pitch and getting a squad ready to climb the Championship table.
