Wrexham took on Peterborough in the EFL Trophy semi final and the opportunity to book a place at Wembley against Birmingham City.
Darren Ferguson was determined to prevent a ‘Hollywood’ final and named a strong side for the game at the Racecourse Ground.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson made several changes including starts for Modou Faal and Dan Scarr, whilst Jack Marriott was hoping to fire against his former club.
Harry Ashfield was another player that was given the rare opportunity to show what he could do and before the game, Parkinson had some interesting words about the Wrexham academy prospect.

Phil Parkinson reveals Harry Ashfield plan
Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel on their Matchday Live coverage, Parkinson was asked about the selection of Ashfield and gave an interesting insight into his role ahead of the semi final.
Parkinson stated: “Harry played brilliant at Port Vale then got a bit of an injury and I just feel with Andy Cannon’s injury we need to get Ashy out there to see if he’s an option at this level against first division players.
The Wrexham boss then laid down the challenge to the youngster and backed Ashfield to show what he could do on a big night for the 18-year-old.
Parkinson explained: “Obviously he’s shown he can do it against Port Vale but it’s a great opportunity tonight for Ashy and our academy.”
Ashfield looking to build upon performance against Port Vale
The young forward has made four senior appearances in the EFL Trophy this season and Paul Mullin lauded Ashfield’s performance against Port Vale.
During the 4-1 win over Port Vale in the last-16 Wrexham fans were overjoyed with Ashfield’s first goal for the club, a well taken finish from a Ryan Longman cross.

Playing in an unfamiliar midfield role, Ashfield will be looking to show what he can do against a tough Peterborough side and with the injury to Andy Cannon and Elliot Lee also struggling, the youngster could make a claim for a regular spot in Parkinson’s side.
