Wrexham know that victory over Peterborough United will secure a place in the EFL Trophy final at Wembley Stadium.

Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson is hoping to prevent a ‘Hollywood’ final given that the winner will play Tom Brady’s Birmingham but the Posh are expected to make several chances to their eleven.

Wrexham have confirmed Andy Cannon’s acl injury so will need to make a change in midfield with Matty James a likely replacement in the Wrexham predicted XI.

Jay Rodriguez has promised an improvement in his performances but he could be replaced in the starting line up by a former Peterborough forward, who love nothing more than to haunt his former side.

Jack Marriott played 114 times for Peterborough United

Jack Marriott is hoping to play a huge part in securing Wrexham’s passage to Wembley and knocking out his former side Peterborough United.

Marriott played 114 times for the Posh and scored an impressive 49 goals with seven assists before moving to Fleetwood in January 2023.

The 30-year-old forward signed for Wrexham in February 2024 and has already appeared 36 times for the Red Dragons with six goals to his name – five of them at the start of the League One campaign.

His excellent form was disrupted by a broken fibula back in October and since Marriott disappointed against Bolton in the EFL Trophy quarter final. However, this will be a game to get his juices flowing and to rediscover his best form.

Marriott could be a better partner for Sam Smith

Phil Parkinson faces a tough call on Rodriguez as the former England international is yet to find his feet at the Racecourse Ground following his January move.

It has been suggested that Sam Smith and Rodriguez are struggling to play together because they are both new signings and are both still getting used to Wrexham’s style of play.

Smith has made more of an impact for the Red Dragons having opened his account at Northampton and has looked a real threat in behind defences, he would relish having someone like Marriott playing off him.

Marriott’s ability to pick the ball up deep and play intricate football around the box means he could be the perfect strike partner for Smith and Parkinson could use the combination in the semi final.
