Wrexham are one win away from promotion to the Championship as Charlton Athletic visit the Racecourse Ground.

Phil Parkinson has named an unchanged side from Wrexham’s 2-1 victory over Blackpool as Jay Rodriguez and Sam Smith continue their partnership up front.

Wrexham fans were delighted with Wycombe’s loss that means that the Red Dragons know that one win from their last two games will guarantee promotion from League One.

Parkinson faced a selection dilemma before the clash as to whether Eoghan O’Connell replaced Dan Scarr in defence but the manager has given the reason why Scarr has got the nod.

Phil Parkinson gives Eoghan O’Connell fitness update

Speaking to Sky Sports on their pre match coverage of Wrexham’s clash with Charlton Athletic, Parkinson gave a fitness update on O’Connell and a reason for his absence from the side.

Parkinson stated: “Eoghan [O’Connell] has got a slight problem with his knee, we rested him all week, he did some of the training yesterday and we felt he’s ok to be on the bench,

“But the way Scarr is, such a good player and he played great for us last week, there was no need to take that risk with Eoghan and Dan’s a real leader.”

Wrexham have been brilliant defensively this season and will be hoping to continue that against a potent Charlton Athletic attack.

Wrexham owners in attendance at the Racecourse Ground

George Dobson was ‘inspired’ by Rob McElhenney after the co-owner gave a rousing speech to the players before their previous clash with Blackpool.

McElhenney has been in attendance for Wrexham’s last two games and is present at the Racecourse Ground alongside Ryan Reynolds.

The Red Dragons are on the brink of history by becoming the first side to win three successive promotions in the English football league.

The Wrexham owners have worked hard to put the club into this position and are now hoping to witness the historic moment in person.
