Wrexham are back in League One action against Bristol Rovers this coming weekend.

The Red Dragons will be looking to return to winning ways when they travel to the Memorial Stadium on December 21st.

Wrexham drew 2-2 with Cambridge United in their last League One fixture after a late mistake from Lewis Brunt handed the away side a penalty at the Racecourse Ground.

That defeat means Phil Parkinson has seen his side slip down to third in the division going into the latest round of games.

Only a couple of points separate Wrexham and the top two, but Wycombe and Birmingham City both have games in hand.

As a result, it’s imperative the American-owned side secure three points against much weaker opposition this weekend.

Ahead of the game, Wrexham manager Parkinson has provided an update on star striker, Jack Marriott.

Phil Parkinson shares Jack Marriott injury update before Bristol Rovers vs Wrexham

With Paul Mullin still recovering from surgery he underwent over the summer, Marriott started the season as one of Wrexham’s primary number nines alongside Ollie Palmer.

The 30-year-old had a prolific opening to the campaign with five goals in 10 League One matches still seeing him sat as the club’s top scorer this term.

However, Marriott suffered a broken leg in training just a few days before the Red Dragons were due to face Rotherham United.

A four-month injury lay-off was touted at the time, meaning he should be returning around February 19th.

But when speaking ahead of the Bristol Rovers clash on Saturday, as per Leader Live, Parkinson confirmed the forward is ahead of schedule.

He said: “Jack has progressed really well. We are looking at Jack being ahead of schedule and we are looking forward to getting him back and seeing him running on the training ground.

“Let’s not put a timescale on it but he’s ahead of schedule which is great news.

“He had a very positive appointment with the specialist and he was really pleased with how everything had healed and knitted together.  Jack is obviously determined to get back and get involved as soon as he can.”

Wrexham stance on new Jack Marriott contract

Marriott attended the meeting between Wrexham and Cambridge last weekend, being pictured alongside Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum.

The striker has now missed 10 league games and Parkinson is no doubt eager to get him back as soon as possible.

When Marriott does return, he will be playing for his future in Wales as his current contract is due to expire in 2025.

We revealed in November that Wrexham will wait until Marriott returns to decide his future because though he has performed well this campaign when fit, there isn’t much room for sentiment at the club given they might be in the Championship come 2025/26.
