Wrexham have certainly set a new standard and outline a new strategy when buying football clubs under Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac.
Back in 2021 when Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac unexpectedly bought Wrexham, few knew what to expect. But nobody would’ve had Wrexham sitting in 16th place of the Championship table come September 2025.
But after three-straight promotions, a £33million spending spree in the summer transfer window, and a 3-2 Wrexham win over Norwich City last time out, that’s exactly what’s happened.
Reynolds and Mac are trying to get Wrexham in the Premier League within the next 10 years and they’re definitely on track to achieve that, potentially a lot sooner than intended too.

Business expert says US investors always ask about Wrexham
Speaking in an interview with ESPN, Sportsology Group’s head of sporting strategy and insight, Chris Mann, has talked about Wrexham under Reynolds and Mac, and how a lot of similar US investors, largely out of the same fields as Reynolds and Mac, almost always cite Wrexham as a case study when considering moving into football ownership.
Mann explained: “There is the ‘halo effect’ that has happened because of Rob and Ryan at Wrexham. They are making a very good go of Wrexham in fairly unique circumstances and creating an entertainment product off the back of a small Welsh club.
“It’s been quite incongruous, but because it has happened, there is a sense that it can be replicated elsewhere. I’m not convinced it can, but when I speak to potential investors from the U.S., they reference Wrexham all the time. It’s not necessarily a driver for the real big-hitter investors or big private equity companies, but among the kind of wealthy individuals who maybe come from entertainment background, it’s certainly a thing.”

Tom Brady can’t help but praise Wrexham under Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac
Another A-lister who’s moved into football ownership after the success of Reynolds and Mac at Wrexham is Tom Brady at Birmingham City.
Brady is a minority owner of Birmingham City and his arrival at the club has sparked an unlikely rivalry between his club and Wrexham, who finished 1st and 2nd in League One respectively last season.
Speaking recently, Brady hailed Reynolds and Mac’s work at Wrexham, admitting that he’s a huge fan of the job that the two actors have done in North Wales, saying: “Wrexham have done an incredible job.
“You can’t be anything but excited about what they’ve done for that club. To invest in the club, where they were at, and to create the awareness around the world for this amazing team in a pretty small city… and the way the players have responded has been nothing short of remarkable.
“I’m so impressed by Wrexham, what they do on the pitch, off the pitch, and, again, they’re in a great position to succeed as well.”
Expect to see more names like Brady investing in football as the success of Wrexham shows no signs of stopping any time soon.
