Wrexham will be playing in the second tier of English football next season.

Wrexham’s 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic secured promotion from League One as goals from Ollie Rathbone and Sam Smith set the Red Dragons on their way.

Fans were in awe of Rathbone’s performance as the midfielder drove his side to victory alongside the excellent Matty James and George Dobson.

Paul Mullin was delighted for Wrexham’s fans and after the game, owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney had a special message for manager Phil Parkinson.

Wrexham owners message to Phil Parkinson

Speaking to Sky Sports during their post match coverage of Wrexham’s victory over Charlton Athletic, Wrexham’s owners were full of praise for the Red Dragons boss.

Reynolds stated: “You can look at so many beating hearts at the club but it all goes back to Phil, I mean the leadership in that locker room and we thankfully don’t make football decisions but the faith that the club has in Phil and the community has in him speaks volumes.”

McElhenney then stated: “In Phil we trust and Ryan and I always find it silly that at the end of the games it’s us standing here with microphones because we’re not the ones out here on the pitch doing the work.”

A third successive promotion means that the club are now one division away from Wrexham’s ultimate goal of Premier League football.

Rob McElhenney pays tribute to those behind the scenes at Wrexham

There has been a lot of work put into making Wrexham a Championship club, from Humphrey Ker to Shaun Harvey and beyond.

McElhenney paid tribute by stating: “There’s so many people here who don’t get the credit they deserve, people who are here everyday, the stewards, obviously the supporters, the media team,

“The coaching staff and everybody that are keeping the players safe, these people who are not talked about, not sung about but keep the entire thing going.”

The Red Dragons now face Lincoln in their final game in League One before their next adventure in the Championship begins.

It will be a busy summer at the club and perhaps some emotional goodbyes as the squad evolves for the new challenge.
