Wrexham pulled off a major coup when they signed Paul Mullin during the 2021 summer transfer window.

Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds took over as Wrexham owners back in February 2021.

After watching the Dragons miss out on the National League play-offs at the end of 2020/21, they set about making big changes to the squad in the summer of 2021.

Reynolds and Mac were sent a Paul Mullin warning at the time by Wrexham chief Shaun Harvey.

It came with the then National League team trying to sign a striker who had just won promotion to League One as the top scorer in the fourth tier.

Now, we have taken a look back at what Mullin was told by Rob when he was signing for the club.

Rob Mac Championship message to Paul Mullin

Harvey recently shared why Mullin signed for Wrexham despite being of interest to teams much higher up the pyramid.

And the 30-year-old has previously shared what he was told about the club’s goals back in 2021.

The number nine revealed in his book ‘Paul Mullin: My Wrexham Story’, that he wanted to know what the goal for Wrexham was, going on to reveal that Mac told him that the Dragons would be in the Championship within five years.

He wrote: “As a player, I wanted to know where ultimately they saw the club going. ‘Within five years,’ Rob told me, ‘we want to either be in the Championship or close to the Championship.’

“Which obviously is exactly what you want to hear as a player, but at the same time any club that wants your signature will say stuff like that.

“The difference with Rob was that it was obvious he meant it. He wasn’t coming at the project for any reason other than to try to fulfil a dream and, in so doing, change the lives of all kinds of different people.”

Paul Mullin can play for Wrexham in Championship

Mac kept his word, with Wrexham reaching the second tier of English football a year ahead of schedule.

Mullin’s dream is to play in the Championship with the Dragons, but that won’t be happening yet as he has been loaned out to Wigan Athletic ahead of 2025/26 getting underway.

However, details of Mullin’s loan deal with the Latics have been shared, and it’s understood he can be recalled in January, which would allow him to feature in the second division.

Even if he doesn’t get recalled in early 2026, the forward is under contract with Wrexham until 2027, so who knows what could happen in the 2026/27 campaign.
