Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have helped Phil Parkinson build a very strong Wrexham squad but some players are finding minutes hard to come by.

Wrexham released eight players during the summer of 2024 and more big changes will likely happen in 2025.

The Red Dragons have a well-stocked squad with quality over the pitch but they do have a lot of competition, seeing a number of players really struggle to earn any sort of meaningful playing time.

Anthony Forde left Wrexham by mutual consent during the winter transfer window after finding minutes hard to come by.

Dan Scarr has spoken on his lack of playing time since he joined from Plymouth Argyle over the summer.

More recently, Phil Parkinson has given an update on Ollie Palmer and Paul Mullin after leaving both strikers out of the club’s last nine League One matchday squads.

But while all the players above have featured in the league in some capacity this season, another hasn’t made a league appearance since 2023/24.

How much Will Boyle has earned since his last league appearance for Wrexham

Will Boyle joined Wrexham from Huddersfield Town in August 2023 for an undisclosed transfer fee.

He was initially a key player in the club’s League Two campaign, even scoring two goals in his first seven outings.

However, Boyle was unable to hold down a regular starting berth and ended the 2023/24 season with 24 league appearances.

His last outing in the league for Wrexham came on April 2nd, 2024, when he played 61 minutes of a 1-0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers.

That means, at the time of writing, it’s been 50 weeks and three days since his last outing.

Currently, Boyle, as per Salary Sport, is earning £5,400-a-week at the Racecourse Ground.

In turn, he’s taken home £270,000 since he last lined out in the league for Wrexham.

Why isn’t Will Boyle playing for Wrexham

Amid a lack of minutes, Boyle was dropped from Wrexham’s League One squad last month alongside Luke Bolton.

He has had some injury issues this season but was still able to be selected for the EFL Trophy during the early rounds.

The other reason that may explain his lack of minutes is the heavy competition at centre-back right now.

Max Cleworth, Eoghan O’Connell, and Lewis Brunt have been Parkinson’s main centre-back trio this term.

And when one of them is rested, suspended or injured, Scarr and Thomas O’Connor have come in, while Aaron James even got a few minutes in the EFL Trophy before he was loaned out in the winter.
