Wrexham may not have signed anyone yet this summer, but they have let players go. Now, with the departure of Sam Dalby comes a sweet message from Rob McElhenney that fans will appreciate.

The summer transfer window should bring about mass change at Wrexham with the club preparing for life in the Championship.

A number of players have already been linked with a move to North East Wales, from realistic targets like Callum Robinson, to frankly ludicrous rumours suggesting Cristiano Ronaldo should be signed by Wrexham.

One deal we know is done is the exit of Sam Dalby, though. The striker spent last season on loan at Dundee United before his contract came to an end with Wrexham, and he’s now found a new club.

Rob McElhenney wishes Sam Dalby well for Bolton Wanderers move

Bolton Wanderers are clearly delighted to get Dalby through the door, with Steven Schumacher praising the attributes his new signing brings.

Wrexham players have reacted to the move, too, wishing Dalby well and suggesting he will excel in League One with the Trotters.

Now, Rob McElhenney has had his say, taking to Twitter/X to share a heartfelt message of support for Dalby and Bolton.

He wrote: “Congrats Dalbs!!!! You got a great one there Bolton!!!!! So happy for you all!!!!”

While it’s nice to see Rob supporting a former player like this, it is funny to see one reply beneath his tweet which reads, “He can’t be that great, let’s be honest, or you wouldn’t have sold him.”

An interesting and pretty fair comment, but in truth, Dalby was never going to cut it for Wrexham in the second tier, and the decision had to be made.

Will Wrexham regret letting Sam Dalby go?

Sam Dalby will not be the last to leave Wrexham this summer, and there are sure to be very difficult decisions with a number of players heading for the exit.

There’s also a good chance Dalby won’t be the most painful goodbye of the window, especially if Paul Mullin does leave as expected.

Such is the nature of Wrexham’s transfer strategy, really, that the club is overwhelmed with attacking options and something has to give at some point.

Dalby may have impressed on loan at Dundee United, with 15 goals in the SPL, but there’s no guarantee that translates to 15 goals in League One, never mind the Championship.
