Wrexham have moved another step closer to promotion from League One after beating Exeter City 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Wrexham went on the road on Saturday afternoon, making the long trip down to Devon to take on Exeter City.
Exeter’s Jack McMillan wanted to hit back at Wrexham after feeling ‘bullied’ by Phil Parkinson’s side earlier this season.
That didn’t really go to plan, though, as Wrexham ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Ollie Rathbone and Jay Rodriguez.
Rathbone’s goal may yet go down as an own goal, but Wrexham will not mind at all, having secured another victory.
Wycombe Wanderers beat Lincoln City, meaning Wrexham remain three points ahead of the Chairboys in the race for promotion.
Rob McElhenney visits Necaxa as Wrexham add another win
Every game is just so important right now, with the end of the season in sight.
Wrexham’s victory was no doubt well-received in North America, with Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds desperate for another promotion.
Saturday’s win was a real boost, but McElhenney has been taking a keen interest in one of his other footballing ventures this week.
Back in April 2024, McElhenney and Reynolds invested in Club Necaxa, purchasing a stake in the Mexican side along with other celebrities.
Eva Longoria, Mesut Ozil and Kate Upton were named as other investors in the Aguascalientes-based side.
Necaxa beat Queretaro 2-0 on Friday night, and McElhenney was in attendance to watch another victory.
One video caught footage of McElhenney and Longoria in conversation as they met up in Mexico.
McElhenney would be forgiven for having Wrexham’s promotion hopes firmly on his mind, but at least he was able to see one of his other teams win.
Necaxa now sit fifth in the Liga MX Clausura phase, just four points behind leaders Club America.
McElhenney and Reynolds recently invested in a third club
It seems that McElhenney and Reynolds have really caught the football bug in recent years.
McElhenney and Reynolds bought Wrexham for £2million in 2021, taking the club on a remarkable journey ever since.
Club Necaxa were next up, but the duo added another club into the mix earlier in 2025.
McElhenney and Reynolds invested in La Equidad, taking their investment to Colombia this time.
Again, other celebrities such as Longoria and Upton were involved in a £24.5million takeover.
La Equidad sit dead last in the Colombian Categoria Primera A Apertura phase, so there seems to be major work to do there.
For now, though, McElhenney will just celebrate a double victory this weekend with both Wrexham and Necaxa picking up wins.
