Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac must get important Wrexham ‘decision right’, according to football expert

Wrexham have been on an incredible journey under Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac since they became the owners of the football club.

The Red Dragons were languishing in the National League whenever they took control of the club, and following their appointment of Phil Parkinson, the Welsh side have been on a meteoric rise.

A historic achievement of three consecutive promotions from the National League to the Championship was summarised in Wrexham’s clash with Leicester City.

A draw against the 2016 Premier League champions was described by Matty James as the club’s best result since they began their journey following the game, as he explained to the BBC.

While fans will hope that the journey can continue forever, it is unlikely that it can, and there is one decision the owners must make in the future; however, it is important they get it right.

Football journalist believes Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac must get who they sell the club to right

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have enjoyed their journey as the owners of the Wrexham football team; however, it is unlikely that they will carry on in this role for the rest of their lives.

It is almost certain they will sell the team in the future, with football journalist Rory Smith believing this to be an incredibly important decision for them while speaking on the Libero podcast.

He said: “The big worry when they first took over was right what happens when they get bored or when the audience drops and Disney or whoever shows it in the States drops the documentary? But I think the answer to that is pretty obvious.

“Wrexham now is worth much more money than it was then. Like Wrexham is now a viable business to buy.

“You would have people who wanted to buy stakes in Wrexham, and that there is a question mark over, like, will they be the right people? The people that Reynolds and Rob Mack sell it to eventually might be total s*******, and they have to get that decision right. It’s really important they do, but it’s really hard.”

Wrexham are looking for investment to continue their journey

Humphrey Ker previously revealed that the owners would rather bring in an outside, billionaire investor later down the line anyway, if and when promotion to the Premier League is achieved with the Red Dragons.

Speaking this summer, Ker gave his verdict on potential investors at Wrexham, saying: “I think it’s very possible [reaching the Premier League], but I think that if you know we build our training ground, and we build our stand, and we renovate the stadium, and we get ourselves up to, like, we’ve got a 20,000-seat modernish stadium that retains the charm, and we can make that jump.

“Then I think what happens is that Rob and Ryan go into their Rolodex and call up one of the dozens and dozens of people who’ve got in touch within the last four years and been like, ‘Hi, I’m a multi-, multi-, multi-billionaire. I want to join in on this with you’.”

However, there was an admission that for this major investment to enter the club, they need to improve three aspects of the club.

The areas include expanding Wrexham’s stadium to a capacity of at least 18,000, revamping the training facilities and improving the academy to develop youth at the Welsh side.
