Wrexham fans probably still can’t believe how much their club has changed over the last four years.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have now been owners of Wrexham for just over four years, purchasing the club when it was still stuck in the National League.

After snapping up the club in February 2021, it was revealed by Rob that Wrexham’s ultimate goal is to reach the Premier League and maybe even win it one day.

If you had told Red Dragons fans that back in 2020, they would no doubt have laughed out loud.

Just half a decade later, however, it almost seems inevitable that one day, the Welsh outfit will be plying their trade in the English top flight.

One of the many, many reasons the club has grown so much in the last few years is down to its new global profile, which played a key role in Wrexham recording a record turnover following the publishing of their latest accounts.

Wrexham shout-out in Season 7 of Netflix’s Black Mirror

McElhenney and Reynolds have done their best to get the club’s name out there, with ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ a big driving force in doing so.

Now, the small town in Wales has somehow managed to land itself a shout-out in a major Netflix show.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted a Wrexham shirt in the Black Mirror trailer that was released in March 2024.

But if that wasn’t enough, the Red Dragons are actually spoken about in one of the latest episodes of the show.

Around the 4 minutes 16 seconds mark of the Season 7 episode titled ‘USS Callister’, one character, who has a Welsh accent, discusses the Red Dragons.

He says: “Either of you watch the Wrexham game last night?”

The character continues: “Well, it was mental though, they were 2-0 down.”

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney impact benefiting Wrexham

It is the latest in the long line of frankly crazy things the football club has experienced in the last few years.

They have gone from struggling to pay wages and fill the stadium to having A-list celebrities visit Wrexham on a regular basis.

And Reynolds and McElhenney’s impact has now been praised this week by Wales’ First Minister.

She said: “Ryan and Rob have done amazing things for Wrexham, they have a great vision and it’s brilliant that they’ve committed to the area as a whole.

“Without question, it’s been a massive shot in the arm for the area. I popped into the Turf and people were explaining to me how Ryan and Rob’s influence has really put Wrexham on the map.”
