So many people have been crucial to Wrexham’s rise under the ownership of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

Paul Mullin joined Wrexham in 2021 during Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ first transfer window as owners.

The 30-year-old, while he fell out of favour in the second half of 2024/25, was so key to the club reaching League One.

Mullin finished as the club’s top goalscorer in the previous three years and was Wrexham’s Player of the Season in all of those campaigns.

Elsewhere, the likes of Humphrey Ker and Shaun Harvey have been crucial behind the scenes.

But Reynolds has now praised the efforts of another figure since he joined Wrexham last year.

Ryan Reynolds praises Wrexham chief Michael Williamson

Michael Williamson came on board as the club’s new CEO back in May 2024.

Williamson has held various roles across his career, including Chief Financial Officer and Chief Strategy Officer.

He worked with clubs such as Miami FC, D.C United, and Inter Milan before making the move to Wales.

Now, Reynolds has been discussing the club chief this week when speaking on the Fearless in Devotion podcast.

When asked about Williamson, Ryan said: “I would say that Michael Williamson has been an enormously beneficial addition because he understands what’s at stake, he’s emotionally invested, I would say on par with us.

“He lives and dies by that club, and many people, including myself, as I walk around London today, I will talk about this for as long as someone wants to talk about this. It is my favourite subject

“So I would say Michael Williamson being involved and understanding what’s required of deadlines. I think nothing in this world gets done without constraint. I think constraint is one of most creative tools in the world because it forces you to think asymmetrically, it allows you to think outside the box if you’re spending too much time and too much money you kind of ruin and murder innovation and I think everyone at the club behind the scenes understands that.”

What Michael Williamson has said about working with Wrexham

Williamson has been acting as the club’s CEO for nearly 12 months now.

During that time, he has been working closely with long-time manager Phil Parkinson.

Williamson spoke about working with Parkinson earlier this year, sharing what he enjoys most.

He said: “What’s been really enjoyable with Phil is to see how he manages a dressing room of 24-25 men that come from different backgrounds and have different ages.

“All of them think that they should be starting, and all of them believe they’re the best at what they do and that’s great because you want that confidence and you want that mentality. But it also means managing all of them because at the end of the day, you’re only able to have 11 on the pitch.”
