The 2024/25 season will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest in Wrexham football club’s long history.
Having been widely expected to fight for survival upon their return to League One heading into the campaign, Phil Parkinson’s men thrived in England’s third tier. Wrexham secured an EFL record third consecutive promotion, finishing second behind an all-conquering Birmingham City side.
Promotion to the Championship was secured on matchday 45 of what was a rollercoaster 24/25 campaign, with Wrexham booking their place in the second division with a thumping 3-0 win over fellow promotion hopefuls Charlton Athletic at the Racecourse Ground.
Wrexham’s staff and players are currently enjoying a well-earned break in Las Vegas, paid for by owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, in which they’re celebrating a job well done ahead of what promises to be an incredibly busy summer of transfer business.

And while Ryan isn’t in Vegas celebrating with the team, he has been on social media reminiscing on what was an astonishing 2024/25 season for Wrexham.
Ryan Reynolds posts ‘love these boys’ message to Wrexham players
Taking to his X/Twitter account, Ryan posted a video compilation of his interactions with some of Wrexham’s star players following the win over Charlton which secured promotion with the caption ‘love these boys’.
In the video Ryan can be seen hugging midfielder George Evans and saying ‘thank you’, and also sharing a joke and a photo opportunity with club record-signing Sam Smith.
Ryan also interacts with James McClean and his entire family, taking photos with the club captain’s daughter on the Racecourse pitch.
Speaking in a recent interview, the club owner declared that James McClean was in fact one of his favourite Wrexham players to watch, comparing him to Hollywood legend Samuel L. Jackson:
“There is a burning, fearsome, 5000 kelvin oven inside that guy that is remarkable, and one of my favourite players to watch,” said Reynolds. “I grew up as the youngest of four boys, right, I have a people pleasing gene in me somewhere. I always love the guys that don’t have that.
“I gravitate towards grumpy people…Samuel L. Jackson can be a grumpy person and he’s one of my favourite human beings on planet earth because of it. I love it. James has a bit of that.”
Ryan Reynolds has responded to rumours he’ll sell Wrexham stake soon
Having bought Wrexham for just £2m back in February 2021, given that the club is now reported to be worth around £100m, it’s fair to say that Rob and Ryan’s investment in the Welsh outfit has been a roaring financial success.
With that huge increase in valuation has also, expectedly, come plenty of rumours that the Hollywood pair are set to sell the club. Speaking on the Fearless in Devotion podcast recently, Ryan responded to rumours that he and Rob will sell Wrexham once they are ‘bored’ of running it, stating:
“I don’t have a message to those people [who say they will get bored of Wrexham]. It’s more like when you know who you are, it’s a superpower.
“I do a lot of like, they’re not motivational speeches, but they’re speeches on storytelling, and storytelling in interesting, unexpected buckets.
“I personally find storytelling to be fulfilling in feature films, through writing, through commercials, through football
“I mean, these are the things that I love, and this is the most romantic version of storytelling I’ve ever heard because it isn’t about a football club, it’s about a town, and the football club is located inside the town
“Sentiment that we feel when we walk through the streets of Wrexham today versus 40 years ago is a contagion, and I love that. So that’s not something you get bored of.”
