Wrexham are competing in the second tier for the first time in over forty years and Shaun Harvey has discussed the objective for the season.

Four promotions in a row would have been great for the documentary but, as most expected, that is already a long shot.

The lowest points total needed for Championship promotion throughout the competition’s history was 79, achieved twice in previous seasons by Stoke City and Hull City.

So far in the current campaign, Wrexham have four points from five and are sitting just above the relegation zone.

Wrexham 2025/26 Championship goal

It has previously been reported that Wrexham want to reach the Premier League by 2027.

That means Phil Parkinson and co. have just two seasons to become a top-end Championship side.

Harvey has been discussing that two-year plan when asked about the goal for the current campaign.

He did not give a clear target, but simply said Wrexham just want to finish as high as possible.

Harvey told the Fearless In Devotion podcast: “So you’ve heard people talk about two-year plans and you’ve heard me for four years talk about three transfer windows to give yourself the best chance of success.

“It’s not a cop-out, but the objective this season is just to literally finish as high as we can. And of course, that’s a gauge to a certain extent is because we don’t actually we don’t really know how good everybody else is.”

“We’re sat here satisfied that we’ve done everything we can to give ourselves the best chance of being successful, but we don’t know what everybody else is doing. We don’t know what everybody else is going to do. We know what they’re going to do now because the transfer windows is shut, but you don’t know who’s going to outperform, underperform.”

Wrexham promotion chances predicted

As already mentioned, promotion in the current campaign, though not impossible, seems unlikely.

At present, Wrexham are predicted to finish 22nd in the Championship this season by Opta.

They have just a 0.20% chance of winning the second-tier title this season.

The Red Dragons’ best hope of going up would be the play-offs, but even that is not expected to happen with just a 5.36% chance of promotion via the Championship play-offs.
