As Wrexham continue their rise up the EFL ladder, their squad must continue to evolve and a number of players have already been let go.

Wrexham released several players during the summer of 2024, some of whom, including Ben Tozer, were previously key assets.

The exits did not stop in the summer, however, with several more Red Dragons stars departing the Racecourse Ground in the most recent transfer window.

Rob McElhenney sent James Jones a message after he left the club to link up with Burton Albion on a free.

Wrexham agreed to let Anthony Forde leave by mutual consent after he’d been frozen out of the League One squad in the first half of 2024/25.

Now, another player Phil Parkinson is no longer selecting has been tipped to be sold in the 2025 summer transfer window.

Ollie Palmer tipped to leave Wrexham in summer

Ollie Palmer joined Wrexham for £300,000 in January 2022 from AFC Wimbeldon.

He has since played a pivotal role in the club’s two recent promotions but has found game time very hard to come by in recent weeks.

In fact, Palmer has not featured in any of Wrexham’s last eight League One matchday squads amid heavy competition up front.

Now, EFL pundit Liam Grice, as per Football League World, has suggested the 33-year-old is the most likely player to be sold by the Welsh outfit when the summer window rolls around.

When asked who he feels is most likely to leave, Grice said: “I cannot see it being any player other than Ollie Palmer, to be honest.

“It seems like his time at the club is over. He does not really get in the matchday squad anymore, even without being injured. There are plenty of options ahead of him.

“We have got six strikers who, in my opinion, should be starting ahead of him, and he is getting to that age now where he is not going to be getting any better as time goes on, so I would really expect to see him move on in the summer.”

What Phil Parkinson has said about Ollie Palmer

After Wrexham signed Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez in late January, Palmer received transfer interest but decided to stay in Wales.

It’s a decision he may end up regretting as there is every chance the number nine does not make another appearance in 2024/25.

At best he seems like the sixth choice striker option now, with Modou Faal even featuring ahead of him.

Parkinson was asked about Palmer and Mullin’s lack of appearances recently and said: “We’ve got a lot of strikers and it is difficult to keep everybody involved.

“We’ll keep assessing it and looking at training all the time, and pick the team and the bench accordingly.”
