Wrexham will be seeking a third straight victory as Darrell Clarke’s Barnsley make the journey from Yorkshire to the STōK Cae Ras.

League One action returns to the STōK Cae Ras on Tuesday night as Wrexham host Barnsley in a huge clash.

Wrexham have beaten Exeter City and Lincoln City in the last two games and head into the final game of this home triple-header.

Wrexham also had the weekend off given the first-round FA Cup exit at the hands of Harrogate Town in November.

Opponents Barnsley had a much more gruelling weekend as they were dumped out of the FA Cup by Bristol Rovers.

Boss Darrell Clarke slammed his Barnsley players as they lost on penalties despite dominating the game.

Wrexham defender praised by Sky Sports commentator

Wrexham will be looking to secure another home win and continue a strong start to the League One season.

Sitting second in League One, Wrexham have genuine hopes of promotion and a win over Barnsley would continue the fine form.

A number of players have excelled this season with the step up from League Two to League One looking seamless for some players.

Max Cleworth is one of those with the Wrexham defender continuing to impress this season.

Sky Sports commentator David Stowell has now praised Cleworth whilst speaking on the Essential EFL podcast.

Stowell, alongside host Simeon Gholam, named Cleworth in the League One Team of the Season so far.

Stowell named Ryan Barnett too and has suggested that Cleworth is a ‘really promising player’ who is ‘one to keep an eye on’ for the years to come.

Cleworth’s impressive goalscoring record was brought up too with the Wrexham defender bagging five goals so far this season.

“A really promising player but, is also very good defensively and also adds that bit of threat going forward,” said Stowell.

“He’s scored a fair few goals this season and is one of those players who is not only performing really well at the moment, but is one of those who is one to keep an eye on for the future as well,” he added.

Max Cleworth bound to attract interest

Cleworth has been tipped as a future Wrexham captain but the reality is that he will be attracting interest elsewhere.

Talented young defenders with ball playing ability and goalscoring talent don’t fly under the radar for long.

There have been no rumours over Cleworth’s future and no suggestion that Premier League or Championship clubs are chasing him.

It would be more of a surprise if those clubs weren’t sniffing around in the background though with Cleworth making the step up brilliantly.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds will want to keep Cleworth for a while yet and long may his Wrexham brilliant continue having emerged as a real success story over the last couple of years.
