Wrexham are back in League One action on Tuesday night as Phil Parkinson welcomes Barnsley to the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham were able to have a free weekend having already been dumped out of the FA Cup in the first round.

Phil Parkinson and his players will have appreciated the break and recharged their batteries ahead of a very busy few weeks.

Barnsley are next up for Wrexham as the Tykes head to the STōK Cae Ras on Tuesday night after losing in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Bristol Rovers dumped Barnsley out on penalties and Wrexham must be wary of a reaction from the Tykes.

After home wins over Exeter City and Lincoln City, Wrexham are seeking another big home victory as Barnsley arrive into town.

Wrexham injury news

Parkinson has a strong squad to choose from against Barnsley but there are some lingering injuries in the Wrexham squad.

Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo broke his wrist in November and is battling to play again this year.

News of Okonkwo’s injury broke just as Parkinson confirmed a setback for Steven Fletcher.

Fletcher suffered a knee injury in October and is unlikely to have recovered in time to face Barnsley.

Fellow striker Jack Marriott remains out of action and isn’t expected to be back until early in 2024 whilst George Evans is another longer-term Wrexham injury.

Fringe players James Jones, Will Boyle and Luke Bolton have also been on the treatment table in recent weeks too.

Wrexham predicted lineup v Barnsley

Okonkwo’s continued absence means that Callum Burton should start in goal, barring any late injury or illness issues.

Parkinson is almost certain to stick with a back three and Max Cleworth is almost undroppable on the right side.

Eoghan O’Connell has forced his way back into the team of late whilst Lewis Brunt has impressed Parkinson and looks set to feature on the left.

Ryan Barnett has arguably been Wrexham’s Player of the Season so far and he should start at right wing back with James McClean over on the left flank.

Former Barnsley man Matty James has made a real impact since arriving on a free transfer and is surely in line for another start.

George Dobson and Ollie Rathbone should get the nod to join James in midfield with Elliot Lee – another former Barnsley man – supporting Ollie Palmer up top.

This 3-5-1-1 system has seen Wrexham earn wins over Exeter and Lincoln with Dobson praising Parkinson’s tactical switch.

Given Wrexham’s weekend off, we can’t see Parkinson making many – or even any – changes to the lineup with a third straight home win the target.
