Steven Fletcher has already praised ‘quality’ Wales international who fancies Wrexham move

Wrexham speculation for the January transfer window has mostly been centred around strikers but a midfielder has now been linked.

The January transfer window is here and this could be a key month for Wrexham.

Phil Parkinson sits third in the League One table, level on points with Wycombe Wanderers and two points shy of league leaders Birmingham City.

Wrexham have achieved back-to-back promotions and a third in a row really isn’t out of the question.

Parkinson will surely want additions this month though with extra quality potentially the key to promotion.

Shaun Harvey claims that Wrexham can spend this month but there have been no new additions just yet.

Steven Fletcher is a fan of Dylan Levitt

Speculation suggests that Wrexham want a new striker and most of the rumours so far have been around goalscorers.

That may well be Parkinson’s priority but Wrexham may also look towards a midfield addition.

Reports suggest that Hibernian’s Dylan Levitt would like to sign for Wrexham this month after a frustrating season at Easter Road.

Levitt is finding himself as an unused substitute on a regular basis and the Wales international fancies heading to the STōK Cae Ras.

It’s unclear whether Wrexham are interested but Levitt would add another midfield option with an eye for goal given the over-reliance on Elliot Lee.

Levitt may not be the attacking threat that Lee is but he has played in advanced roles before and may fancy the chance to play there for Wrexham.

Levitt at least has one fan in the Wrexham squad having played with striker Steven Fletcher at Dundee United.

Speaking to the Daily Record after a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock in 2022, Fletcher hailed Levitt as a ‘great wee player’.

Fletcher teed up Levitt to score, back-heeling the ball into his path before Levitt rifled a first-time strike into the net.

Fletcher loved what he saw from Levitt in terms of an attack-minded midfielder who can break forward and support the striker.

That could fit in well with Wrexham and Fletcher added that he could instantly see Levitt had ‘real quality’ and great technique.

“Me and Dyl had a good bit of link-up for the goal. He’s a great wee player. If he’s going to back me up like that on the edge of the box, I’ll take that all day long,” said Fletcher.

“I had seen a few clips of him but I knew straight away as soon as I arrived at the club… after the first training session I could see he had real quality.

“It’s just the way he takes the ball, you can see the technique. You can see he’s come through a good academy. The way he moves with the ball and the way he moves his body, it’s quality. He makes it look so easy,” he added.

Levitt’s North Wales ties

Levitt came up in the Manchester United ranks but struggled to break through at Old Trafford.

It all started in North Wales though as Levitt was born in Bodelwyddan, just about 45 minutes from Wrexham.

Levitt was also schooled at Flint High School, which is even closer to Wrexham, and played for Connah’s Quay Tigers as a kid.

It’s therefore no great surprise that Levitt seemingly fancies a move to Wrexham, where he can be closer to his roots.

Whether Parkinson shares that interest remains to be seen, but Fletcher would surely be delighted to link up with him once again.
